Objective: To identify post-operative risk factors for the development of chronic pain after knee replacement.
Design: Primary knee replacements in persons aged ≥18 years between April 2008 and December 2016 from the National Joint Registry, linked with English Hospital Episode Statistics data, and Patient Reported Outcome Measures. The outcome was chronic pain 6-months after surgery (Oxford Knee pain score).

Background: Children with persistent speech disorder (PSD) are at higher risk of difficulties with literacy, with some evidence suggesting an association with poorer educational attainment. However, studies to date have either used small clinical samples, which exclude children who have not been referred to clinical services, or relied on parent-teacher report of children's speech development. There is a need for an inclusive study to investigate the impact of PSD on educational outcomes using a population-based sample and robust measures of speech development.

Daily activities performed by music instructors generate high sound levels that could potentially lead to overexposure. Adverse outcomes associated with high-exposure to sound, such as hearing loss and tinnitus, can be especially devastating to music instructors as hearing is essential to both job performance and career reward. The primary objective of this study was to compare sound exposures of music instructors to recommended exposure limits.

Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted of consecutive dental patients (18 years and over) attending the UWI School of Dentistry polyclinic. Following informed consent, dental examinations were performed and the presence of DH was assessed clinically by sensitivity to an air blast on individual teeth.
Background: Voretigene neparvovec is a gene therapeutic agent for treatment of retinal dystrophies caused by bi-allelic mutations. In this study, we report on a novel and objective evaluation of a retinotopic photoreceptor rescue.
Methods: Seven eyes of five patients (14, 21, 23, 24, 36 years, 1 male, 4 females) with bi-allelic mutations have been treated with voretigene neparvovec.
Dual-modality 4D cardiac data visualization can convey a significant amount of complementary image information from various sources into a single and meaningful display. Even though there are existing publications on combining multiple medical images into a unique representation, there has been no work on rendering a series of cardiac image sequences, acquired from multiple sources, using web browsers and synchronizing the result over the Internet in real time. The ability to display multi-modality beating heart images using Web-based technology is hampered by the lack of efficient algorithms for fusing and visualizing constantly updated multi-source images and streaming the rendering results using internet protocols.

serotype 7 lacks glycosidic constituents in wall teichoic acids. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of serotype 7 strain FSL R9-0915 and an analysis of genes known to affect antigenicity. This strain is used as a control strain in phage host range analyses.

Integrated health care includes joint, outpatient delivery of medical and behavioral health services. Traditional patient satisfaction measures might fail to capture the discrete delivery approaches in this model. To identify patient satisfaction measures used in integrated health care settings, a systematic review was conducted of US-based studies conducted in adult outpatient integrated care settings from 1999 through 2020.

Methods: A longitudinal qualitative interview study was embedded in the ProtecT RCT. Sixteen men with clinically LPCa who underwent EBRT in ProtecT were purposively sampled to include a range of socio-demographic and clinical characteristics.
Worldwide, the use of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) for pesticide application has grown tremendously in the past decade. Their adoption has been slower for Midwestern row crops. This study compared droplet size, coverage, and drift potential of sprays from UAV application methods to those from ground (implement) sprayer methods on corn in the Midwest.

They consist of two porphyrins that are each attached to a diphenylglycoluril-based clip molecule via four ethyleneoxy spacers, and are linked together by a single alkyl chain using "click"-chemistry. Following a newly developed multistep synthesis procedure we report three of these double porphyrin cages, linked by spacers of different lengths, i.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute anorexia nervosa (AN) constitutes an extreme physiological state. We aimed to detect state related metabolic alterations during inpatient admission and upon short- and long-term weight regain. In addition, we tested the hypothesis that metabolite concentrations adapt to those of healthy controls (HC) after long-term weight regain.

Within a short period of time, a large number of individual solutions were developed. The committee "Simulated Persons" of the Society for Medical Education has developed considerations and proposals in five areas to meet the qualitative challenges of the method.

We aim to evaluate whether proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) affect the response to infliximab therapy in patients with IBD.
Design: Patient-level data of adult patients with moderate-to-severe IBD treated with infliximab were obtained from the Yale Open Data Access Framework.
Background: Currently, the two most common bariatric procedures are laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB). Long-term data comparing the two interventions in terms of their effect on body composition and bone mass density (BMD) are scarce.
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess body composition and BMD at least 5 years after LSG and LRYGB.
Pharmaceutical legislation provides a legal framework to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines. This framework requires national regulatory authorities (NRAs) to establish and maintain a pharmacovigilance system (PV system) stating and enforcing the regulatory commitments that key stakeholders, including marketing authorisation holders (MAHs), are required to fulfil. In recent years, national legislative bodies and NRAs across the world have issued a significant amount of legislation and guidance enforcing the obligation to perform pharmacovigilance activities.

However, it is not clear whether this reflects a sex differential in the causal effect of diabetes on CHD risk or results from sex-specific residual confounding.
Research Design And Methods: Using 270 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for type 2 diabetes identified in a type 2 diabetes genome-wide association study, we performed a sex-stratified Mendelian randomization (MR) study of type 2 diabetes and CHD using individual participant data in UK Biobank (251,420 women and 212,049 men).
Background: While observational studies revealed an inverse association between serum 25(OH)vitamin D (25(OH)D) and the risk of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the causality of this relationship remains unclear.
Methods: We conducted a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) study to examine whether 25(OH)D has an effect on the risk to develop ADHD or vice versa. Information on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) associated with serum 25(OH)D was obtained from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) considering phenotype data from 79,366 individuals of European ancestry.
