Introduction: The purpose was to determine if an age based, local diagnostic reference level for paediatric skeletal surveys could be established using retrospective data.

Methods: All children below two years of age referred for a primary skeletal survey as a result of suspected physical abuse during 2017 or 2018 (n = 45) were retrospectively included from a large Danish university hospital. The skeletal survey protocol included a total of 33 images.

Here, we present the potential of tumor organoids, three-dimensional cultures of tumor cells, to model GEP-NEC.

Potential for Electric Vehicle Adoption to Mitigate Extreme Air Quality Events in China.

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption promises potential air pollutant and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction co-benefits. As such, China has aggressively incentivized EV adoption, however much remains unknown with regard to EVs' mitigation potential, including optimal vehicle type prioritization, power generation contingencies, effects of Clean Air regulations, and the ability of EVs to reduce acute impacts of extreme air quality events. Here, we present a suite of scenarios with a chemistry transport model that assess the potential co-benefits of EVs during an extreme winter air quality event.

Assessing Barriers to Effective Coverage of Health Services for Adolescents in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Scoping Review.

Purpose: Understanding barriers to health services, as experienced by adolescents, is important to expand effective and equitable coverage; however, there is limited discussion on methods for conducting barrier assessments and translating findings into action.

Methods: We conducted a scoping review of literature published between 2005 and 2019 on barriers to health services for adolescents in low- and middle-income countries. The review was guided by a framework that conceptualized barriers across multiple dimensions of access (availability, geographic accessibility, affordability, and acceptability), utilization, and effective coverage.

Methods: We identified patients referred for CMR evaluation of ICI cardiotoxicity from September 2015 through September 2019.

Towards Core Competencies for Health Policy and Systems Research (HPSR) Training: Results From a Global Mapping and Consensus-Building Process.

Background: As the field of health policy and systems research (HPSR) continues to grow, there is a recognition of the need for training in HPSR. This aspiration has translated into a multitude of teaching programmes of variable scope and quality, reflecting a lack of consensus on the skills and practices required for rigorous HPSR. The purpose of this paper is to identify an agreed set of core competencies for HPSR researchers, building on the previous work by the Health Systems Global (HSG) Thematic Working Group on Teaching & Learning.

Hydrogels of engineered bacterial fimbriae can finely tune 2D human cell culture.

Demand continues to grow for biomimetic materials able to create well-defined environments for modulating the behaviour of living cells in culture. Here, we describe hydrogels based upon the polymeric bacterial fimbriae protein capsular antigen fragment 1 (Caf1) that presents tunable biological properties for enhanced tissue cell culture applications. We demonstrate how Caf1 hydrogels can regulate cellular functions such as spreading, proliferation and matrix deposition of human dermal fibroblast cells (hDFBs).

Ideality in Context: Motivations for Total Synthesis.

Total synthesis-the ultimate proving ground for the invention and field-testing of new methods, exploration of disruptive strategies, final structure confirmation, and empowerment of medicinal chemistry on natural products-is one of the oldest and most enduring subfields of organic chemistry. In the early days of this field, its sole emphasis focused on debunking the concept of vitalism, that living organisms could create forms of matter accessible only to them. Emphasis then turned to the use of synthesis to degrade and reconstitute natural products to establish structure and answer questions about biosynthesis.

The effectiveness of training strategies to improve healthcare provider practices in low-income and middle-income countries.

Introduction: In low/middle-income countries (LMICs), training is often used to improve healthcare provider (HCP) performance. However, important questions remain about how well training works and the best ways to design training strategies. The objective of this study is to characterise the effectiveness of training strategies to improve HCP practices in LMICs and identify attributes associated with training effectiveness.

A prospective study on effectiveness of elevated intraocular pressure as a criterion for glaucoma referrals by optometric practitioners in Sweden.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcome of referrals for suspected glaucoma based on elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) made by optometric practitioners in Sweden.

Methods: This prospective study included 95 individuals referred to the Skåne University Hospital Malmö, Sweden, during 2019, by optometric practitioners, based on elevated IOP. Positive outcome was defined as a diagnosis of glaucoma, or a diagnosis of suspected glaucoma.

Efficacy and safety of a magnesium stearate paclitaxel coated balloon catheter in the porcine coronary model.

Background: Local administration of growth-inhibiting substances such as paclitaxel or sirolimus could reduce the risk of restenosis. In the drug coated balloon (DCB) technology the coating and the applied dose seem to play a major role. The aim of the present preclinical studies was to investigate the efficacy and safety of a specific DCB with paclitaxel as active ingredient and magnesium stearate as excipient.

Predicting field-goal success according to offensive, defensive and contextual variables in elite men's wheelchair basketball.

The purposes of this study were to (i) develop a field-goal shooting performance analysis template and (ii) explore the impact of each identified variable upon the likely outcome of a field-goal attempt using binary logistic regression modelling in elite men's wheelchair basketball. First, a field-goal shooting performance analysis template was developed that included 71 Action Variables (AV) grouped within 22 Categorical Predictor Variables (CPV) representing offensive, defensive and game context variables. Second, footage of all 5,105 field-goal attempts from 12 teams during the men's 2016 Rio De Janeiro Paralympic Games wheelchair basketball competition were analysed using the template.

Global hypermethylation of intestinal epithelial cells is a hallmark feature of neonatal surgical necrotizing enterocolitis.

Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) remains one of the overall leading causes of death in premature infants, and the pathogenesis is unpredictable and not well characterized. The aim of our study was to determine the molecular phenotype of NEC via transcriptomic and epithelial cell-specific epigenomic analysis, with a specific focus on DNA methylation.

Methods: Using laser capture microdissection, epithelial cell-specific methylation signatures were characterized by whole-genome bisulfite sequencing of ileal and colonic samples at the time of surgery for NEC and after NEC had healed at reanastomosis (n = 40).

Strengthening social accountability in ways that build inclusion, institutionalization and scale: reflections on FHS experience.

This editorial provides an introduction to the special issue on "Lessons about intervening in accountability ecosystems: implementation of community scorecards in Bangladesh and Uganda". We start by describing the rationale for this work in the two study countries. While our project, the Future Health Systems (FHS) project, had been working over the course of more than a decade to strengthen health services, particularly for low income households in rural areas, our teams increasingly recognized how difficult it would be to sustain service improvements without fundamental changes to local accountabilities.

The absence of an agreed set of core competencies to provide a basis for developing and assessing knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes contributes to this challenge. This study aims to identify the requisite core competencies for practicing health professionals in mid-level supervisory and program management roles to effectively perform their public health responsibilities in the resource-poor setting of Uttar Pradesh (UP), India.

Analysis of Whole-Genome Sequences of Infectious laryngotracheitis Virus Isolates from Poultry Flocks in Canada: Evidence of Recombination.

Infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) is a herpes virus that causes an acute respiratory disease of poultry known as infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT). Chicken embryo origin (CEO) and tissue culture origin (TCO) live attenuated vaccines are routinely used for the control of ILT. However, vaccine virus is known to revert to virulence, and it has been recently shown that ILT field viral strains can undergo recombination with vaccinal ILTV and such recombinant ILT viruses possess greater transmission and pathogenicity potential.

Designing New Metal Chalcogenide Nanoclusters through Atom-by-Atom Substitution.

Atom-by-atom substitution is a promising strategy for designing new cluster-based materials, which has been used to generate new gold- and silver-containing clusters. Here, the first study focused on atom-by-atom substitution of Fe and Ni to the core of a well-defined cobalt sulfide superatom [Co S L ] ligated with triethylphosphine (L = PEt ) to produce [Co MS L ] (M = Fe, Ni) is reported. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry confirms the substitution of 1-6 Fe atoms with the single Fe-substituted cluster being the dominant species.
