In this work, we use density functional theory to investigate the electronic structure of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) oligomers with co-located AlCl anions, a promising combination for energy storage. The 1980s bipolaron model remains the dominant interpretation of the electronic structure of PEDOT despite recent theoretical progress that has provided new definitions of bipolarons and polarons. By considering the influence of oligomer length, oxidation or anion concentration and spin state, we find no evidence for many of the assertions of the 1980s bipolaron model and so further contribute to a new understanding.

Methods: Subjects from Injuries, Morbidity, and Parental Attitudes Concerning Tiny High-powered Magnets (IMPACT of Magnets), a retrospective, multicenter study of children with high-powered magnet exposures (ie, ingestion or bodily insertion), were contacted.
Background And Objectives: High-powered magnets were effectively removed from the US market by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 2012 but returned in 2016 after federal court decisions. The United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit cited imprecise data among other reasons as justification for overturning CPSC protections. Since then, incidence of high-powered magnet exposure has increased markedly, but outcome data are limited.

We study the coexistence of quasistatic clusters (with a characteristic length of ∼9 Å) and highly mobile atomic oxygen which diffuses between the energy-inequivalent, threefold hollow sites of the substrate. We determine a surprisingly low activation energy for diffusion of 385±20 meV.

By construction, the particle performs coupled vibrational and activated jump motion with a wide separation of the vibrational period and the mean residence time between jumps. The long time limit of the ISF is a decaying tail proportional to the function that describes ideal jump motion in the absence of vibrations.
