The spread of multidrug-resistant strains of , the etiologic agent of gonorrhea, represents a global health emergency. Therefore, the development of a safe and effective vaccine against gonorrhea is urgently needed. In previous studies, murine monoclonal antibody (mAb) 2C7 was raised against gonococcal lipooligosaccharide (LOS).

The escalating rates of gonorrhea globally are associated with higher numbers of disseminated gonococcal infection (DGI). Expression of the PorB1A allele of the major outer membrane porin protein, PorB, is associated with DGI. This meta-analysis shows that the odds of PorB1A strains to disseminate is 20.

We demonstrate that active site ensembles on transition metal phosphides tune the selectivity of the nitrate reduction reaction. Using NiP nanocrystals as a case study, we report a mechanism involving competitive co-adsorption of H* and NO* intermediates. A near 100% faradaic efficiency for nitrate reduction over hydrogen evolution is observed at -0.

Background: 4-Aminopyridine (4AP) is a medication for the symptomatic treatment of multiple sclerosis. Several 4AP-based PET tracers have been developed for imaging demyelination. In preclinical studies, [C]3MeO4AP has shown promise due to its high brain permeability, high metabolic stability, high plasma availability, and high in vivo binding affinity.

A promising metal-organic complex, iron (Fe)-NTMPA, consisting of Fe(III) chloride and nitrilotri-(methylphosphonic acid) (NTMPA), is designed for use in aqueous iron redox flow batteries. A full-cell testing, where a concentrated Fe-NTMPA anolyte (0.67 M) is paired with a Fe-CN catholyte, demonstrates exceptional cycling stability over 1000 charge/discharge cycles, and noteworthy performances, including 96% capacity utilization, a minimal capacity fade rate of 0.

Candida auris is an emerging fungal pathogen that has become a world-wide public health threat. While there have been numerous studies into the nature, composition and structure of the cell wall of Candida albicans and other Candida species, much less is known about the C. auris cell wall.

Carbon sorbent materials have shown great promise for solid-state hydrogen (H) storage. Modification of these materials with nitrogen (N) dopants has been undertaken to develop materials that can store H at ambient temperatures. In this work density functional theory (DFT) calculations are used to systematically probe the influence of curvature on the stability and activity of undoped and N-doped carbon materials toward H binding.

Vaccines to curb the global spread of multidrug-resistant gonorrhea are urgently needed. Here, 26 vaccine candidates identified by an artificial intelligence-driven platform (Efficacy Discriminative Educated Network[EDEN]) were screened for efficacy in the mouse vaginal colonization model. Complement-dependent bactericidal activity of antisera and the EDEN protective scores both correlated positively with the reduction in overall bacterial colonization burden.

Vasopressin is frequently utilized for a variety of shock states in critically ill patients. Short stability (≤24 hours) after intravenous admixture with current manufacturer labeling requires just in time preparation and may lead to delays in therapy and increased medication waste. We aimed to evaluate vasopressin stability in 0.

Article Synopsis
  • [F]3F4AP is a new PET radiotracer that targets potassium channels and shows potential for imaging neurological diseases, specifically demyelinated lesions, in animal studies, prompting its evaluation in humans for safety and radiation dosimetry.
  • In a study with four healthy volunteers, the radiotracer was administered and monitored through a 4-hour dynamic PET scan, revealing the tracer's highest concentrations in organs like the kidneys, liver, and brain, with rapid clearance from the body.
  • The average effective dose of radiation exposure from [F]3F4AP in humans was determined to be lower than in previous animal studies, and the safety findings showed no significant adverse effects

The systematic improvement of Fe-N-C materials for fuel cell applications has proven challenging, due in part to an incomplete atomistic understanding of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) under electrochemical conditions. Herein, a multilevel computational approach, which combines ab initio molecular dynamics simulations and constant potential density functional theory calculations, is used to assess proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) processes and adsorption thermodynamics of key ORR intermediates. These calculations indicate that the potential-limiting step for ORR on Fe-N-C materials is the formation of the Fe-OOH intermediate.

A safe and effective vaccine against multidrug-resistant gonorrhea is urgently needed. An experimental peptide vaccine called TMCP2 that mimics an oligosaccharide epitope in gonococcal lipooligosaccharide, when adjuvanted with glucopyranosyl lipid adjuvant-stable emulsion, elicits bactericidal immunoglobulin G and hastens clearance of gonococci in the mouse vaginal colonization model. In this study, we show that efficacy of TMCP2 requires an intact terminal complement pathway, evidenced by loss of activity in C9-/- mice or when C7 function was blocked.

Bacterial biofilms represent a challenge to the healthcare system because of their resilience against antimicrobials and immune attack. Biofilms consist of bacterial aggregates embedded in an extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) composed of polysaccharides, nucleic acids and proteins. We hypothesised that carbohydrates could contribute to immune recognition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms by engaging C-type lectins.

To date, the understanding of reactions at solid-liquid interfaces has proven challenging, mainly because of the inaccessible nature of such systems to current experimental techniques with atomic resolution. This has meant that many important features, including free energy barriers and the atomistic structure of intermediates, remain unknown. To tackle these issues, we construct and utilize a high-dimensional neural network (HDNN) potential for the simulation of hydrogen evolution at the HCl(aq)/Pt(111) interface, taking into consideration the influence of adsorbate-adsorbate, adsorbate-solvent interactions, and ion solvation explicitly.

This study was conducted to determine the activities of gentamicin alone and in combination with ceftriaxone, ertapenem, and azithromycin against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates. A total of 407 clinical isolates from Nanjing, China, obtained in 2016 to 2017, had MICs determined for gentamicin using the agar dilution method. MDR status was ascribed to 97 strains that displayed decreased susceptibility or resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESCs) (ceftriaxone [MIC, ≥0.

The higher reactivity of the methanol product over the methane reactant for the direct oxidation of methane to methanol is explored. C-H activation, C-O coupling, and C-OH coupling are investigated as key steps in the selective oxidation of methane using DFT. These elementary steps are initially considered in the gas phase for a variety of fcc (111) pristine metal surfaces.
