Familial trends in a population with macular holes.

Purpose: To determine if patients with macular hole report an increased family history of macular hole compared with control patients and compare the report of family history between patients with unilateral and bilateral macular holes.

Methods: This was a multicenter case-control study. Charts of patients coded with diagnosis of macular hole were reviewed, and the diagnosis of idiopathic full-thickness macular hole was ascertained in 166 patients.

Ranibizumab for treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration: a phase I/II multicenter, controlled, multidose study.

Objective: To assess safety of repeated intravitreal injections of ranibizumab in treating neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and to assess changes in visual acuity (VA) and AMD lesion characteristics.

Design: Multicenter, controlled, open-label, clinical trial.

Participants: Sixty-four patients with subfoveal predominantly or minimally classic AMD-related choroidal neovascularization.

Characteristics of patients with cytomegalovirus retinitis in the era of highly active antiretroviral therapy.

Purpose: To describe the characteristics of patients with AIDS and cytomegalovirus retinitis in the era of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

Methods: Prospective cohort study. Baseline (enrollment) data were compared between patients with newly diagnosed cytomegalovirus retinitis (incident cases) and those with previously diagnosed cytomegalovirus retinitis (prevalent cases).
