Introduction: Veterinary clinical microbiology laboratories play a key role in antimicrobial stewardship, surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and prevention of healthcare associated-infections. However, there is a shortage of international harmonized guidelines covering all steps of veterinary bacterial culture from sample receipt to reporting.
Methods: In order to gain insights, the European Network for Optimization of Veterinary Antimicrobial Treatment (ENOVAT) designed an online survey focused on the practices and interpretive criteria used for bacterial culture and identification (C&ID), and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of animal bacterial pathogens.
Background: Due to the high prevalence of hypertension in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and advanced chronic kidney disease, diagnosing secondary hypertension poses challenges. We present a rare case of pheochromocytoma in an ADPKD patient to highlight the diagnostic difficulties in identifying secondary hypertension due to pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGL) in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.
Case Report: A 48-year-old female with ADPKD and ESRD experienced recurrent hypertensive crises (up to 220/135 mmHg) accompanied by palpitations and tremors that recurred over the past 2 years.
Hypothyroidism is common, however, aspects of its treatment remain controversial. Our survey aimed at documenting treatment choices of European thyroid specialists and exploring how patients' persistent symptoms, clinician demographics, and geo-economic factors relate to treatment choices. Methods: Thyroid specialists from 28 countries were invited to respond to a questionnaire, Treatment of Hypothyroidism in Europe by Specialists: an International Survey (THESIS).
Background And Aims: This study aimed at evaluating associations between nutritional status and outcomes in patients with Covid-19 and to identify statistical models including nutritional parameters associated with in-hospital mortality and length of stay.
Methods: Data of 5707 adult patients hospitalized in the University Hospital of Lausanne between March 2020 and March 2021 were screened retrospectively 920 patients (35% female) with confirmed Covid-19 and complete data including nutritional risk score (NRS 2002), were included. This cohort was divided into three subgroups: NRS <3: no risk of malnutrition; NRS ≥3 to <5: moderate risk malnutrition; and NRS ≥5: severe risk of malnutrition.

Importance: Identification and preservation of parathyroid glands (PGs) remain challenging despite advances in surgical techniques. Considerable morbidity and even mortality result from hypoparathyroidism caused by devascularization or inadvertent removal of PGs. Emerging imaging technologies hold promise to improve identification and preservation of PGs during thyroid surgery.

It is caused by overexpression of deiodinase type 3 (D3), which leads to preferential conversion of thyroxine to the metabolically inactive reverse triiodothyronine (rT3), paralleled by a decrease of the biologically active T3.
Case Presentation: A 46-year-old male patient with previously normal thyroid function was diagnosed with a renal carcinoma with rhabdoid differentiation.

Familial nontoxic multinodular goiter (MNG) is a rare disease. One of the associated genes is Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (), which encodes the main inhibitor of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related transcription factor 2 (Nrf2), a central mediator of antioxidant responses. The association of with familial MNG is based on only two loss-of-function mutations identified in two families, only one of which included proper phenotyping and adequate demonstration of co-segregation of the phenotype and the mutation.
