Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted on pigs to compare cardiac output (CO) measurements between a Swan-Ganz catheter and a transit-time flow probe during situations causing hemodynamic instability.
  • The first series showed a delay of 5-7 minutes for the Swan-Ganz catheter to detect a significant change in CO, whereas both methods correlated well during prolonged changes in the second series.
  • The findings suggest that while Swan-Ganz catheters are generally reliable, flow probes are more effective for quick detection of sudden changes in cardiac output during extreme conditions.

Objectives: To describe the epidemiology of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) in Denmark. To investigate if cardiovascular (CV) related comorbidity and death were increased among Danish AAV patients registered with a diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) in Denmark. To investigate if there was a temporal relation between diagnosis of GPA and CV disease and death.

Little is known about the occurrence of hypokalemia due to combination therapy for hypertension. Using data from Danish administrative registries, we investigated the association between different combinations of antihypertensive therapy and risk of developing hypokalemia. Using incidence density matching, 2 patients without hypokalemia were matched to a patient with hypokalemia (K, <3.

Aims: We investigated the association between potassium levels and 90-day all-cause mortality in atrial fibrillation or flutter (AF) patients co-treated with diuretics and rate- or rhythm-controlling drugs.

Methods And Results: During 2000-12, first-time AF patients treated with beta-blockers, amiodarone, sotalol, verapamil, or digoxin combined with any diuretic within 90 days post-AF discharge were included. Following co-treatment, a potassium measurement within 90 days after initiating diuretic treatment was required.

Cardiotoxicity is a known risk of anthracycline treatment. However, the relative contribution of anthracyclines to the development of congestive heart failure (CHF), when included in a poly-chemotherapy regimen, is unclear. We examined cardiotoxicity in adult patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and follicular lymphoma undergoing first-line immunochemotherapy from 2000-2012.
