Background: In 2017, the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) implemented the Life-Sustaining Treatment Decisions Initiative (LSTDI), which created a portable and durable code status for use across its health care system. Patients who now have a durable do not resuscitate (DNR) status may undergo invasive procedures. Few studies have examined whether proceduralists discuss DNR status and document changes before procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic study was conducted on metal-assisted chemical etching (MacEtch) to create vertical silicon (Si) microwire arrays, focusing on optimizing various parameters like metal film thickness and morphology.
  • The resulting Si microwires reached lengths of up to 23.2 μm and showed improved performance when used in solar cells, achieving a conversion efficiency of 13.0%, an open-circuit voltage of 547.7 mV, and a short-circuit current density of 33.2 mA/cm².
  • This research demonstrates that using MacEtch for high-quality Si microwires can lead to the development of affordable and efficient solar cell technology.

Article Synopsis
  • Conventional color sensors use organic dye filters for color imaging, but they are less durable, have low absorption capability, and are complex to make.
  • A new method using all-silicon nanowire devices eliminates the need for filters, creating pixels with vertical silicon nanowires that act as photodetectors.
  • The new approach allows the capturing of color by tuning the nanowire radius, increasing photon efficiency and changing the way light is converted into electrical signals.

Article Synopsis
  • Silicon microwire arrays are emerging as efficient and cost-effective solar cells, with the study reporting conversion efficiencies as high as 10.6% for 1 cm² devices.
  • Key performance metrics include an open-circuit voltage of 0.56 V, a short-circuit current density of 25.2 mA/cm², and a fill factor of 75.2%, utilizing a thin 25 μm silicon absorption layer.
  • The efficiency improvement from 8.71% to 10.6% is achieved by adding a 200 nm thick SiO2 coating, which significantly reduces reflection in the visible spectrum.

A handoff is the transfer of a patient's care from one provider to another. It usually involves both a verbal and written exchange of information. Although written handoff sheets are critical to good patient care, there is little data on the quality of information they contain.

We report the impact of a monthly educational exercise for residents that emphasized practical skills and equipment usage rather than knowledge of advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) protocols. Residents were divided into groups of approximately four that rotated through three stations. Each station included several objectives, most of which related to specific types of equipment.
