Even as the understanding of the mechanism behind correlated insulating states in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene converges toward various kinds of spontaneous symmetry breaking, the metallic "normal state" above the insulating transition temperature remains mysterious, with its excessively high entropy and linear-in-temperature resistivity. In this Letter, we focus on the effects of fluctuations of the order parameters describing correlated insulating states at integer fillings of the low-energy flat bands on charge transport. Motivated by the observation of heterogeneity in the order-parameter landscape at zero magnetic field in certain samples, we conjecture the existence of frustrating extended-range interactions in an effective Ising model of the order parameters on a triangular lattice.

We evaluated the efficacy of intercostal cryoneurolysis as an analgesic adjunct for chest wall pain, specifically addressing the applicability of intercostal cryoneurolysis for pain control after chest wall trauma.
Methods: A systematic review was performed through searches of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library.
"Strange metals" with resistivity depending linearly on temperature T down to low T have been a long-standing puzzle in condensed matter physics. Here, we consider a lattice model of itinerant spin-[Formula: see text] fermions interacting via onsite Hubbard interaction and random infinite-ranged spin-spin interaction. We show that the quantum critical point associated with the melting of the spin-glass phase by charge fluctuations displays non-Fermi liquid behavior, with local spin dynamics identical to that of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev family of models.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: The purpose of this study was to identify trauma patients who would benefit from surgical placement of an enteral feeding tube during their index abdominal trauma operation.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of all patients admitted to 2 level I trauma centers between January 2013 and February 2018 requiring urgent exploratory abdominal surgery.
Results: Six-hundred and one patients required exploratory abdominal surgery within 24 hours of admission after trauma activation.
Neuronal activity induces changes in blood flow by locally dilating vessels in the brain microvasculature. How can the local dilation of a single vessel increase flow-based metabolite supply, given that flows are globally coupled within microvasculature? Solving the supply dynamics for rat brain microvasculature, we find one parameter regime to dominate physiologically. This regime allows for robust increase in supply independent of the position in the network, which we explain analytically.

Objective: Postoperative C5 palsy is a known complication of cervical decompressive spinal surgery. The goal of this study was to review the incidence, patient characteristics, and outcome of C5 palsy in patients undergoing cervical spine surgery.
Study Design: A retrospective multicenter study.
Objective: Routine cervical spine surgeries are typically associated with low complication rates, but serious complications can occur. Intraoperative death is a very rare complication and there is no literature on its incidence.

Background: Rotator cuff tears are a common cause of shoulder pain and often necessitate operative repair. Muscle atrophy, fibrosis, and fatty infiltration can develop after rotator cuff tears, which may compromise surgical outcomes. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction has traditionally focused on recreating the anteromedial bundle, while the reconstruction of the posteromedial bundle has not routinely been addressed. The authors, from 2 academic centers, present a technique of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction that restores both the anteromedial and the posterolateral bundle using either semitendinosus and gracilis autografts or tibialis anterior allografts.

The purpose of this study was to describe our method of surgical treatment of knee dislocations with use of a standardized protocol and to report the clinical results.
Methods: Forty-seven consecutive patients presented with an occult (reduced) or grossly dislocated knee.
Acute knee dislocations are uncommon orthopaedic injuries. Because they often spontaneously reduce before initial evaluation, the true incidence is unknown. Dislocation involves injury to multiple ligaments of the knee, resulting in multidirectional instability.
