Background: Risk factors and comorbidities can complicate management of non-valvular atrial fibrillation. We describe and compare real-world safety and effectiveness of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs; apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran) and vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in subgroups of patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation at high risk for gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, utilizing data from a national quasi-exhaustive French database.
Methods: Anticoagulant-naïve adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation with ≥1 gastrointestinal bleeding risk factor, initiating anticoagulant treatment January 2016-December 2019, and covered by the French national health data system were eligible.

Hypothesis: Ellipsoidal particles confined at liquid interfaces exhibit complex self-assembly due to quadrupolar capillary interactions, favouring either tip-to-tip or side-to-side configurations. However, predicting and controlling which structure forms remains challenging. We hypothesize that introducing a polymer-based soft shell around the particles will modulate these capillary interactions, providing a means to tune the preferred self-assembly configuration based on particle geometry and shell properties.

There are different forms of IIM, each with peculiar clinical manifestations and prognosis. Accordingly, several autoantibodies have been described in IIM, with different prevalence in the different forms of the disease.

For this reason, optical tweezers are a ubiquitous tool in physics, biology, and nanotechnology. Recently, the use of deep learning has started to enhance optical tweezers by improving their design, calibration, and real-time control as well as the tracking and analysis of the trapped objects, often outperforming classical methods thanks to the higher computational speed and versatility of deep learning.

Methods: Anticoagulant-naïve adults with NVAF with ≥1 GIB risk factor, initiating anticoagulant treatment January 2016-December 2019, and covered by the French national health data system were eligible. Outcomes included major bleeding (MB) and stroke/systemic embolism (SE).
Classification criteria of autoimmune rheumatic diseases are an important means to define homogenous groups of patients that can be compared across studies for clinical trials and research purposes. The measurement of autoantibodies is a relevant aspect in the definition of classification criteria, with a significant weight in the scores necessary to classify patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The impact of autoantibodies has gradually increased over the years, contributing to the evolution and improvement of the classification criteria.

In addition to the P protein, their P gene also encodes the V and W proteins that share with P their N-terminal intrinsically disordered domain (NTD) and possess distinct C-terminal domains (CTDs). The W protein is a key player in the evasion of the host innate immune response.

We report a paired description of patients presenting with similar manifestations involving the central (CNS) or peripheral nervous system (PNS) following SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination, suggesting that both may have triggered similar immune-mediated neurological disorders in the presence of anti-idiotype antibodies directed against the ACE2 protein.
Patients And Methods: Four patients exhibited overlapping neurological manifestations following SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination: radiculitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and MRI-negative myelitis, respectively, sharing positivity for anti-ACE2 antibodies.
The persistence of symptoms for more than three months following infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 is referred to as "Long COVID". To gain a deeper understanding of the etiology and long-term progression of symptoms, this study aims to analyze the prevalence of Long COVID and its associated factors in a cohort of Brazilian adults and elders, twelve months after hospital discharge. An observational, prospective, and follow-up study was performed with a cohort of adults and older adults diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2020 in the State of Paraná, Brazil.

Methods: We used the French National Health Data System (système national des données de santé) to identify eligible patients from January 1, 2012, to March 1, 2019. Inclusion criteria were a diagnosis of β-thalassemia, ≥8 red blood cell (RBC) transfusion episodes per year in ≥2 consecutive years following the diagnosis, and ≥1 year of follow-up data.
Optical tweezers (OT) have become an essential technique in several fields of physics, chemistry, and biology as precise micromanipulation tools and microscopic force transducers. Quantitative measurements require the accurate calibration of the trap stiffness of the optical trap and the diffusion constant of the optically trapped particle. This is typically done by statistical estimators constructed from the position signal of the particle, which is recorded by a digital camera or a quadrant photodiode.

Recent studies demonstrated a better survival and good response to TMZ in methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase ()-methylated GBM cases. However, approximately 20% of patients with -unmethylated GBM display an unexpectedly favorable outcome.

Method: Cross-sectional study conducted with secondary data from older people with a positive diagnosis of Covid-19 living in the State of Paraná, collected from March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021. Prevalence ratios were obtained by adjusting the regression model.
European Cancer Organisation Essential Requirements for Quality Cancer Care (ERQCCs) are explanations of the organisation and actions necessary to provide high-quality care to patients with a specific cancer type. They are compiled by a working group of European experts representing disciplines involved in cancer care, and provide oncology teams, patients, policymakers and managers with an overview of the essential requirements in any healthcare system. The focus here is on adult glioma.

The present study described a case of thrombocytopenia that occurred during treatment with panitumumab. A female patient aged 49 years with metastatic rectal adenocarcinoma was treated with 9 out of 12 cycles of therapy with the standard of care, 5-fluorouacil (5-FU), oxaliplatin and folic acid, in association with panitumumab.

Here, we develop a computational approach to generate phase stability plots for the MgO-CO-HO system that do not rely on traditional experimental corrections for the solid phases. We compare the predictions made by several dispersion-corrected density-functional theory schemes, and we include the temperature-dependent Gibbs free energy through the quasi-harmonic approximation.

This system was developed to study, in a systematic and controllable way, a distinctive instance of diffusion, called Fickian yet Non Gaussian diffusion (FnGD), observed, during the last decade, for colloidal particles in a variety of complex and biological fluids. Our setup generates an optical speckle field that behaves like a disordered set of optical traps.
