Beta-blockers, such as bisoprolol and carvedilol, demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing sudden cardiac death, particularly in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Volume-regulated anion channels (VRACs) formed by leucin-rich repeat containing 8 (LRRC8) proteins play a pivotal role in regulatory volume decrease by mediating the release of chloride and organic osmolytes. Apart from the regulation of cell volume, LRRC8/VRAC function underlies numerous physiological processes in vertebrate cells including membrane potential regulation, glutamate release and apoptosis. Acquired drug resistance is a major challenge in the management of cancer, which underscores the need for discovery and development of novel therapeutic strategies. We report here the mechanism of the anti-cancer activity of a small coordinate complex composed of the rare earth metal praseodymium (Pr) and mercaptopyridine oxide (MPO; pyrithione). Exposure of cancer cells to relatively low concentrations of the conjugate Pr-MPO (5 µM) significantly impairs cell survival in a p53-independent manner and irrespective of the drug resistant phenotype.

Using a first-principles approach, the adsorption characteristics of CO and HF on a CuCl monolayer (ML) are studied with Grimme-scheme DFT-D2 for accurate description of the long-range (van der Waals) interactions. RAS is one of the most commonly mutated oncogenes associated with multiple cancer hallmarks. Notably, RAS activation induces intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, which we previously demonstrated as a trigger for autophagy-associated execution of mutant KRAS-expressing cancer cells. Olfactory neuroblastoma is a rare, undifferentiated carcinoma of the nasal cavity. It is an extremely rare malignancy, usually occurring in the sixth decade of life with no known underlying cause. In this case report, we present a 71-year-old male with an enlarging facial mass near the right medial nasal bridge, initially diagnosed as undifferentiated carcinoma on biopsy and later confirmed as olfactory neuroblastoma eroding into the anterior skull base.
