Methods: In this prospective cohort study the association between bone mineral density (BMD), bone-derived factors (sclerostin, Dickkopf-1, and osteoprotegerin (OPG)), and four outcomes were investigated: 1) progression of albuminuria; 2) decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥30 %; 3) kidney failure (KF); and 4) a composite kidney outcome consisting of at least one of the outcomes.

Introduction: Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) experience progressive kidney function decline and high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality. This study explored changes in kidney function decline in new-onset DN between 2000 and 2020 and provided an updated prognosis for risk of kidney failure, CVD, and mortality.
Methods: This is a register-based cohort study in T1D with new-onset DN (severely increased albuminuria) between 2000 and 2020 at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, Denmark.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors can cause a reversible decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which may influence dosing recommendations for renally excreted medications. In practice, GFR is typically estimated by serum creatinine concentration, but creatinine may not be a reliable indicator of GFR decline in the setting of SGLT2 inhibitor use. Alternative filtration markers such as cystatin C, β-trace protein (BTP), and β2-microglobulin (B2M) may be more appropriate, but little is known about how these markers are affected by SGLT2 inhibitor use.

At sites with intrusion of saline groundwater resulting in biofilm growth, the concrete exhibited significant concrete deterioration and steel fibre corrosion. Using amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomics, the microbial taxa and surveyed potential microbial mechanisms of concrete degradation at two sites over five years were identified.

Participants: This retrospective Danish nationwide cohort includes 2586 individuals with diabetes who have undergone a kidney biopsy between the 1980s and 2022.
Background: This study validates the application of Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine second edition (SNOMED II) codes used to describe medical kidney biopsies in Denmark in encoded form, aiming to support robust epidemiological research on the causes, treatments and prognosis of kidney diseases.
Methods: Kidney biopsy reports from 1 January 1998 to 31 December 2018 were randomly extracted from the Danish National Patobank, using SNOMED codes. A 5% sample was selected, and nephrologists assessed the corresponding medical records, assigning each case the applied clinical diagnoses.
Aim: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are two common diseases known to worsen the trajectory of each other, yet it is unknown whether MS is associated with incident DM.
Methods: Using Danish nationwide registries, we identified all patients aged 18-99 with a first-time primary or secondary discharge diagnosis with MS between 2000 and 2018, with no known DM. These patients were matched with control subjects from the background population in a 1:5 ratio based on age and sex, to assess their risk of DM.
