Objective: We assessed the prevalence of guardian-reported reading difficulties in children treated for non-syndromic craniosynostosis (NSC) and in relation to the location of the closed suture. Additionally, we determined correlations with guardian-reported neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and associations between reported reading ability, sex, timing of surgical intervention, parental education, and heredity of reading difficulties in guardians.

Design: Cross-sectional, prospective, population-based study.

Background: The incorporation of Question Prompt Lists (QPLs) into pharmacy interactions has been tested as an innovative strategy aimed at enhancing patient engagement and addressing personal information needs. However, there is a gap in understanding regarding how QPLs induce or reduce patient activation and contribute to improved medical treatment. The specific aim of the study was therefore to qualitatively describe how pharmacy encounters in which QPL are introduced unfold, in order to identify and discuss relevant interactional mechanisms that induce or reduce patient activation.

The aim of this study was to evaluate different types of intra-velar veloplasty within an otherwise uniform surgical protocol. The impact of cleft width and the surgeon's experience on outcome measurements was examined.

Longitudinal study of root resorption on incisors caused by impacted maxillary canines-a clinical and cone beam CT assessment.

Objective: To evaluate the long-term status of incisors with canine-induced root resorption (CIRR).

Materials And Methods: Subjects with impacted maxillary canines (IMC) and persisting incisors with CIRR examined with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), diagnosed ≥ 5 years earlier, were recalled. The resorption grade in the horizontal and vertical plane was assessed on CBCT images at baseline (T0) and follow-up (T1).

A Review of Current Data on Duration of Effect in Glabellar Lines After Treatment With AbobotulinumtoxinA 50 U.

Background: AbobotulinumtoxinA has become well established as a treatment option for moderate to severe glabellar lines since its first aesthetic approval in 2009.

Objective: Pivotal trials leading to regulatory approval showed that abobotulinumtoxinA treatment was associated with high responder rates when defined as achievement of none or mild glabellar lines (0 or 1 on the glabellar line severity scale) and a duration of action of up to 5 months. More recently, the goals for treatment of glabellar lines have shifted toward not only achieving a decrease in glabellar line severity but also ensuring that patients are satisfied with their experience.

Background: Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is extensively used in spinal procedures such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, while its use in percutaneous cement discoplasty (PCD) is not yet widely spread. A main issue for both application sites, vertebra and disc, is the mismatch in stiffness between cement and bone, potentially resulting in adjacent vertebral fractures and adjacent segment disease. Tailoring the cement modulus using additives is hence an interesting strategy.

The Surprise Question and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients on Hemodialysis: A Cross-Sectional Multicenter Study.

Background: The Surprise Question (SQ) is a common method aimed at identifying frail patients who need serious illness conversations to integrate a palliative approach. However, little is known about whether the SQ identifies patients on hemodialysis who perceive that they are declining or have low health-related quality of life (HRQoL)-important aspects when considering the need for serious illness conversations.

Objective: To explore how nurses and physicians' responses to the SQ are associated with patients' self-reported HRQoL.

A Virtual Assessment Model for At-Home Evaluation of Suspected Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Cases.

The Sudan virus disease outbreak in 2022 prompted the Denver Health High-Risk Infection Team (HITeam) to evaluate and implement novel strategies to respond to viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) events. To improve the VHF response, HITeam members developed a virtual assessment model (VAM) for at-home evaluation of individuals who are suspected of having a VHF. The VAM incorporates aspects of care that would normally be rendered in a high-level isolation unit-including assessment and monitoring, specimen collection, provider consultation, patient and family teaching, and pharmaceutical intervention-into a mobile framework in which team members respond to a suspected case at the individual's home.

Objective: To describe factors associated with quality of couple relationships among parents of infants cared for in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) 1 year after birth and examine the trajectory of the relationship quality compared to parents from maternity units (MUs).

Study Design: Longitudinally comparative cohort design. Parents answered surveys during the first year after discharge about the couple relationship, social support, and depressive symptoms.

Mechanical characterization and cytocompatibility of linoleic acid modified bone cement for percutaneous cement discoplasty.

Minimally invasive spine treatments have been sought after for elderly patients with comorbidities suffering from advanced degenerative disc disease. Percutaneous cement discoplasty (PCD) is one such technique where cement is injected into a degenerated disc with a vacuum phenomenon to relieve patients from pain. Adjacent vertebral fractures (AVFs) are however an inherent risk, particularly for osteoporotic patients, due to the high stiffness of the used cements.

The Importance of Networks and Relationships: Leveraging the Biocontainment Unit Leadership Workgroup for Special Pathogen Outbreak Response.

Developing and sustaining relationships and networks before an emergency occurs is crucial. The Biocontainment Unit Leadership Workgroup is a consortium of the 13 Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers in the United States. Established in 2017, the volunteer-based workgroup is composed of operational leaders dedicated to maintaining readiness for special pathogen care.

Building a biocontainment unit: Infrastructure and organizational experiences of the 13 regional biocontainment units in the United States.

In the United States, the system for special pathogen patient care incorporates a network of federally funded US biocontainment units that maintain operational readiness to care for patients afflicted by high-consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs). This network has expanded in number of facilities and in scope, serving as a regional resource for special pathogen preparedness. Lessons learned for maintaining these units are shared with the intent of informing new and existing biocontainment units.

Multidisciplinary patient-centered approach to the management of skin cancer.

In recent years, new approaches for optimal patient management of cancer have focused on patient-centered care, with integration of tumour-directed treatment and patient-directed supportive and palliative care throughout the disease journey from prevention through screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. In 2022, at the International Forum of Dermatology (IFD), a scientific session was entirely dedicated to highlight recent developments on patient-centered approaches in skin cancer. An international panel of different groups of participants involved in a patient's journey on the management of skin cancer presented and discussed challenges and barriers that persist in the field of skin cancer prevention and care pathways.

Background: Botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT-A) is well-established for treatment of glabellar lines (GLs), and mostly formulated as powders requiring reconstitution for injection. The approved liquid formulation, ready-to-use (RTU) abobotulinumtoxinA was developed to ease injection procedures and prevent reconstitution errors. This multicenter, open-label, Phase IV study evaluated GL treatment experience using RTU abobotulinumtoxinA versus powder BoNT-A (onabotulinumtoxinA).

Silicon nitride is utilized clinically as a bioceramic for spinal fusion cages, owing to its high strength, osteoconductivity, and antibacterial effects. Nevertheless, silicon nitride exhibits suboptimal damping properties, a critical factor in mitigating traumatic bone injuries and fractures. In fact, there is a scarcity of spinal implants that simultaneously demonstrate proficient damping performance and support osteogenesis.

Background: Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) from rubber glove usage is usually caused by rubber additives such as the accelerators. However, in analyses of the suspected gloves, ordinary rubber allergens are not always found. Accelerator-free rubber gloves are available, but some patients with accelerator allergy do not tolerate them and might also be patch test positive to them.
