The potential of cannabinoids to address public health challenges has stimulated exploration into alternative sources and production technologies. Radula marginata, an endemic Aotearoa/New Zealand liverwort, produces the bibenzyl cannabinoid perrottetinene (PET), analogous to Cannabis psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Structural differences between PET and THC could alter therapeutic interactions and mitigate adverse side effects.

Efforts to deconvolve the complex interactions of cancer cells with other components of the tumor micro- and macro-environment have exposed a common tendency for cancers to subvert systems physiology and exploit endogenous programs involved in homeostatic control of metabolism, immunity, regeneration, and repair. Many such programs are engaged in the healing response to surgery which, together with other abrupt biochemical changes in the perioperative period, provide an opportunity for the macroevolution of residual disease. This review relates contemporary perspectives of cancer as a systemic disease with the overlapping biology of host responses to surgery and events within the perioperative period.

Mixed ionic/electronic conductors (MIECs) are essential components of solid-state electrochemical devices, such as solid oxide fuel/electrolysis cells. For efficient performance, MIECs are typically nanostructured, to enhance the reaction kinetics. However, the effect of nanostructuring on MIEC chemo-mechanical coupling and transport properties, which also impact cell durability and efficiency, has not yet been well understood.

Article Synopsis
  • * Using 2021 data from the American Community Survey, researchers compared married and unmarried households, finding demographic differences consistent with prior studies, particularly regarding race, ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic status.
  • * Same-sex married couples showed greater demographic diversity than opposite-sex couples, but couples from minoritized groups were still less likely to marry, highlighting the need for further research on factors influencing these trends and considerations for policymakers and clinicians.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how experts and regular people feel about videos promoting bowel cancer screenings in Australia.
  • Almost 500 consumers and 34 experts watched videos and shared what they thought about them, focusing on how much they would encourage people to participate.
  • Both groups agreed on many things, but experts didn't think personal stories were as effective as consumers did for motivating people to complete screening kits.

Enabling light-controlled ionic devices requires insight into photoionic responses in technologically relevant materials. Mixed-conducting perovskites containing nondilute Fe─serving as electrodes, catalysts, and sensors─can support large, electronically accommodated excursions in oxygen content, typically controlled by temperature, bias, and gas atmosphere. Instead, we investigated the ability of low-fluence, above-bandgap illumination to adjust oxygen stoichiometry and drive oxygen fluxes in nondilute Sr(TiFe)O ( = 0.

Insertion sequence (IS) elements are the simplest autonomous transposable elements found in prokaryotic genomes. We recently discovered that IS110 family elements encode a recombinase and a non-coding bridge RNA (bRNA) that confers modular specificity for target DNA and donor DNA through two programmable loops. Here we report the cryo-electron microscopy structures of the IS110 recombinase in complex with its bRNA, target DNA and donor DNA in three different stages of the recombination reaction cycle.

Genomic rearrangements, encompassing mutational changes in the genome such as insertions, deletions or inversions, are essential for genetic diversity. These rearrangements are typically orchestrated by enzymes that are involved in fundamental DNA repair processes, such as homologous recombination, or in the transposition of foreign genetic material by viruses and mobile genetic elements. Here we report that IS110 insertion sequences, a family of minimal and autonomous mobile genetic elements, express a structured non-coding RNA that binds specifically to their encoded recombinase.

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) takes place in various types of electrochemical devices that are pivotal for the conversion and storage of renewable energy. This paper describes a strategy in the design of solid-state structures of OER electrocatalysts through controlling the cation substitution on the active metal site and consequently valence band center position of site-mixed Y(YRu)O pyrochlore to achieve high catalytic activity. We found that partially replacing the B-site Ru cation with A-site Y in pyrochlore-structured YRuO modifies the oxidation state of B-site Ru from 4 to 5, as observed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy but does not continuously increase the oxygen vacancy concentration in these oxygen substoichiometric compositions, as quantified by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) decomposition studies.

Diminished hip labral size and tissue quality may be a predictor of poor patient outcomes when a non-augmented primary labral repair is performed. Labral augmentation is an option for patients with hypoplastic or degenerative labral tissue. The optimal graft for augmentation has yet to be identified, and biomechanical research shows no difference in force to suction-seal disruption between dermal allograft and iliotibial band allograft when used to augment the labrum.
