VEGF and decorin were detected using validated immunohistochemical methods on 100 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of canine STS. Identification of a novel polyomavirus from a marsupial host.

We report the identification and analysis of a full sequence of a novel polyomavirus from a brushtail possum () termed possum polyomavirus (PPyV). The sequence was obtained from the next-generation sequencing assembly during an investigation into the aetiological agent for a neurological disease of possums termed wobbly possum disease (WPD), but the virus was not aetiologically involved in WPD. The PPyV genome was 5,224 nt long with the organisation typical for polyomaviruses, including early (large and small T antigens) and late (Viral Protein 1 (VP1), VP2, and VP3) coding regions separated by the non-coding control region of 465 nt.

Spinal anomalies are a recognised source of downgrading in finfish aquaculture, but identifying their cause(s) is difficult and often requires extensive knowledge of the underlying pathology. Late-onset spinal curvatures (lordosis, kyphosis, scoliosis) can affect up to 40% of farmed New Zealand Chinook (king) salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) at harvest, but little is known about their pathogenesis. Curvature development was radiographically documented in two related cohorts of commercially-farmed Chinook salmon throughout seawater production to determine (1) the timing of radiographic onset and relationships between (2) the curvature types, (3) the spinal regions in which they develop and (4) their associations with co-existing vertebral body anomalies (vertebral compression, fusion and vertical shift).

Papillomaviruses (PVs) cause around 5% of all human cancers, including most cervical cancers and around a quarter of all oral cancers. Additionally, some studies have suggested that PVs could cause a proportion of human lung, breast, and bladder cancers. As PVs have been associated with skin cancer in cats and, more rarely, dogs, it was hypothesized that these viruses could also contribute to epithelial cancers of the lung, mammary gland, and bladder of dogs and cats.

Objectives: To examine the kinematics of athletes with good and poor lumbopelvic stability (LPS) based on clinical rating criteria of single leg squat (SLS) and dip test (DT) The aim was to establish if good and poor LPS categorization is supported by differences in kinematic variables.

Methods: Sixty-two recreational athletes had their LPS categorized using clinical rating criteria for SLS and DT as good, poor or neither good nor poor. Kinematic measures were examined in those with good (N = 8) or poor (N = 14) LPS and results compared to the rating criteria.

Tissues from Australian brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) that had been experimentally infected with wobbly possum disease (WPD) virus (WPDV) were examined to elucidate pathogenesis of WPDV infection. Mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltrates were present in livers, kidneys, salivary glands and brains of WPD-affected possums.
