High-performance liquid chromatographic method for direct resolution of the indobufen enantiomeric components.

A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination of (S)-(+)- and (R)-(-)-indobufen as diastereoisomeric derivatives has been applied and validated for stability control in tablet formulations. In order to obtain a less troublesome and more rapid method the direct resolution of the enantiomeric components by chiral stationary phases was investigated. The direct separation of the enantiomers was achieved using the cellulose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate) derivative Chiralcel OD as a chiral stationary phase.

AgNOR counts in endometrial and endocervical carcinomas.

The histologic differentiation between endometrial and endocervical adenocarcinomas is a common diagnostic problem. In the present study, the distribution of nucleolar organizer regions (NOR) is evaluated in the two groups of neoplasm, but it is concluded that NOR counts do not offer any histological discriminant between endometrial and endocervical carcinomas.

Effects of cimetidine on in vitro transformation of peripheral monocytes to macrophages in healthy volunteers and cancer patients.

Monocyte-to-macrophage transformation is a phenomenon which correlates with the absolute number of mononuclear cells, principally lymphocytes, contained in the culture. The addition of cimetidine to cultures of mononuclear cells from the peripheral blood of healthy volunteers enhances monocyte transformation (probably by way of blocking the H2 receptors of suppressors T lymphocytes) regardless of the absolute number of monocytes in the culture or of basal transformation rates. Removal of the lymphocytes from the cultures lowers the basal transformation rate and prevents the effect of cimetidine.

Insulin receptors and insulin sensitivity in normo and hyperinsulinemic obese patients.

The authors have studied insulin receptors on peripheral blood monocytes and insulin sensitivity, evaluated by simultaneous infusion of glucose, insulin and somatostatin in 10 control subjects and in 20 obese patients with normal glucose tolerance. The obese patients have been divided into two groups, normo (NO) and hyperinsulinemic (HO), according to the total insulin response during OGTT. We considered HO patients with insulin response higher than M + 2DS of controls.

ACTH, beta-endorphin and met-enkephalin: peripheral modifications during the stress of human labor.

We investigated the psychoneuroendocrine and emotional correlates of the natural stress situation of human labor. State anxiety, subjective pain, plasma ACTH, peripheral plasma beta-lipotropin (Beta-LPH), beta-endorphin (Beta-EP), and met-enkephalin (Met-Enk) were serially evaluated at six predetermined time points before, and after labor in a sample of 14 women with normal pregnancies. State anxiety and subjective pain showed a progressive increase during labor, with a levelling during the final stage.

[Effect of parturition on serum glycerol and non-esterified fatty acids in obese and normal weight women].

Serum glycerol and NEFA content variations are examined before and after labor in obese and normal weighing women (35 subjects). Blood glycerol and NEFA are shown to increase before delivery. Glycerol values are shown to drop to normal immediately after delivery, while NEFA values diminish to a lesser extent.

Inhibitors of bacterial urease: microbiological considerations on hydroxyurea influenza virus.

Hydroxyurea is a well known enzyme urease inhibitor. Bacteria strains producers of enzyme urease can be the cause of struvite calculosis. Clinical studies have shown that treatment with hydroxyurea can produce acid urine in patients suffering from struvite calculosis.
