Background: Aim of the presented study was to investigate changes in clinical parameters and active matrix metalloproteinase-8 (aMMP-8) levels in gingival crevicular fluid of patients before and during treatment with multibrackets appliances.
Methods: Fifty-five adolescents scheduled for the treatment were included. Clinical parameters and subgingival samples were obtained at six time points: 1 week before appliance insertion (T0), 3 (T1), 6 (T2) weeks, 3 (T3), 6 (T4) months, and 1 year (T5) after that.
Objectives: The aim of this multicenter clinical study was to examine the oral health-related quality of life and oral hygiene in adolescents before and during aligner therapy.
Materials And Methods: Forty subjects (18 ♀, 22 ♂; mean age: 13.6 years) scheduled for aligner therapy (Invisalign® Teen) were given oral health-related quality of life questionnaires, Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-G14) and Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetic Questionnaire (PIDAQ), to complete within their treatment (visit 1: 0 start of therapy; visit 2: 0 + 4 weeks; visit 3: 0 + 10 weeks; visit 4: 0 + 6 months; visit 5: 0 + 1 year).
Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) of the mandible according to Obwegeser/Dal Pont is considered to be gold standard in orthognathic surgery. Frequently reported complications of BSSO are injuries of the mandibular nerve resulting in paresthesia/anesthesia as well as inadequate mandibular bone fracturing ('bad split'). The present study describes the effect of (S)-2,3-dihydro-[3,4]cyclopentano-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine-1,1-dioxide (S18986), a positive allosteric modulator of the alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid (AMPA) receptors, on (S)-AMPA-mediated increases in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA and protein expression in rat primary cortical neuronal cultures. (S)-AMPA (0.01-300 microM) induced a concentration-dependent increase in BDNF mRNA and protein expression (EC(50)=7 microM) with maximal increases (50-fold) compared to untreated cultures observed between 5 and 12 h, whereas for cellular protein levels, maximal expression was detected at 24 h.

Here we report that epidermal growth factor (EGF) potentializes transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta)-induced Smad3 transactivation in rat hepatocytes, an effect abrogated by TAM-67, a dominant negative mutant of AP-1. Antisense transfection experiments indicated that c-Jun and JunB were involved in the synergistic effect, and endogenous c-Jun physically associated with Smad3 during a combined EGF/TGF-beta treatment.
