Introduction: Ultrasound (US)-guided axillary vein puncture is a safe and effective approach for cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation, and it is highly recommended by the current consensus document. However, only reports on small populations are available in the current literature regarding the comparison of this technique with other traditional approaches (subclavian vein blind puncture and cephalic vein surgical cutdown).
Purpose: We aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of US- guided axillary vein puncture using a microintroducer kit for CIED implantation as compared to the aforementioned traditional approaches.
Background: Lenalidomide-based therapies are recommended as first-line treatment for multiple myeloma (MM) patients, regardless of the transplant eligibility. Resistance to lenalidomide is a clinical problem that urgently needs to be addressed. The expression of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) is abnormally high in a variety of tumor tissues including MM.

Background: Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) frequently reactivates following allogeneic stem cell transplant (alloHCT). Consensus guidelines note that haploidentical alloHCT may represent a high-risk population for which there is little evidence; this warrants further investigation.
Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, we evaluated 188 consecutive adult patients receiving haploidentical alloHCT between 11/2014 and 11/2020 and compared outcomes between patients with HHV-6B reactivation receiving targeted antiviral therapy and those who were clinically observed.

Immune-based therapeutic interventions recognizing proteins localized on the cell surface of cancer cells are emerging as a promising cancer treatment. Antibody-based therapies and engineered T cells are now approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat some malignancies. These therapies utilize a few cell surface proteins highly expressed on cancer cells to release the negative regulation of immune activation that limits antitumor responses (e.

Less transportation, reduced costs, prompt diagnosis, a sense of security, and continuous real-time monitoring are the main advantages. On the other hand, less physician-patient interactions and the technology barrier in the elderly pose specific problems in remote monitoring.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA sustainable and scalable protocol for synthesizing variously functionalized sulfonamides, from amines and sulfonyl chlorides, has been developed using environmentally responsible and reusable choline chloride (ChCl)-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs). In ChCl/glycerol (1 : 2 mol mol) and ChCl/urea (1 : 2 mol mol), these reactions yield up to 97 % under aerobic conditions at ambient temperature within 2-12 h. The practicality of the method is exemplified by the sustainable synthesis of an FFA4 agonist and a key building block en route to anti-Alzheimer drug BMS-299897.

Although effective for some cancers, toxicities remain a limitation. The most common toxicities, that is, cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, are well described.

We developed an integrated Physical Activity Index to assist with this task. The purpose of this project was to conduct interviews to assess the feasibility and clinical utility of the Physical Activity Index from both provider and patient perspectives.

Background: Catheter ablation (CA) of atrial fibrillation is routinely used to obtain rhythm control. Evidence suggest that catheter ablation should be done during uninterrupted oral anticoagulation.
Methods: Italian Registry in the setting of atrial fibrillation ablation with rivaroxaban (IRIS) is an Italian multicenter, non-interventional, prospective study which enrolled 250 consecutive atrial fibrillation patients eligible for catheter ablation on rivaroxaban.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of medical research, the emergence of RNA-based therapeutics is paradigm shifting. It is mainly driven by the molecular adaptability and capacity to provide precision in targeting. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic crisis underscored the effectiveness of the mRNA therapeutic development platform and brought it to the forefront of RNA-based interventions.

A pivotal step in defining this role has been provided by therapeutic efficacy of anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies. Indeed, treatment with anti-CD20 can also alter number and function of other immune cells not directly expressing CD20 on their cell surface, whose activities can contribute to unknown aspects influencing therapeutic efficacy.

The optimized protocol scales easily to 3 g of substrate without yield loss and extends successfully to tacrine derivatives with reduced hepatotoxicity. Particularly notable is the synthesis of novel triazole-based derivatives, yielding 90-95%, by integrating an in situ preparation of aryl azides in DESs with -propargyl-substituted tacrine derivatives.

This study aims to evaluate the potential use of serum nucleocapsid antigen (NAg) and Krebs von den Lungen-6 glycoprotein (KL-6) as biomarkers of severe COVID-19 and to investigate their correlation with clinical, radiological, and biochemical parameters.
Methods: This retrospective study included 128 patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to a Neapolitan hospital in Italy between October 2020 and July 2021.
Protein synthesis is frequently deregulated during tumorigenesis. However, the precise contexts of selective translational control and the regulators of such mechanisms in cancer is poorly understood. Here, we uncovered CNOT3, a subunit of the CCR4-NOT complex, as an essential modulator of translation in myeloid leukemia.

Stereoselective preparation of disubstituted or trisubstituted ethyl cinnamate derivatives is achieved in the presence of LiOH, KCO, or DBU as bases, at room temperature and under air. Demonstrated with the synthesis of ()-ethyl 3-(4-bromophenyl)acrylate, the same eutectic mixture (choline chloride/urea) proved to be reusable for three consecutive runs.

Human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, leading to a warming of the Earth's climate. The relationship between climate change and cardiovascular (CV) health, mediated by air pollution and increased ambient temperatures, is complex and very heterogeneous.
