Purpose: To investigate the discordance in sarcoma diagnoses between nonspecialized institutions following revision by dedicated sarcoma pathologists at a reference center in Brazil and the relevance of molecular pathology in this context.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of sarcoma samples initially analyzed at outside laboratories and subsequently reviewed by two specialized pathologists between January 2014 and December 2020. After obtaining demographic and tumor characteristics, pathology results were matched and classified as complete discordance (CD; benign malignant, sarcoma other malignancies), partial concordance (similar diagnosis of connective tumor, but different grade/histological subtype/differentiation), and complete concordance (CC).
Wolves have been the archetype of wildlife persecution by humans for centuries all over the world, and still are heavily persecuted in some regions. Facultative diurnal/nocturnal wild mammals are known to become more nocturnal when persecuted. Conversely, little is known regarding the possibility of wolves becoming more diurnal if not persecuted.

Nuclear anxiety, which refers to the fear of nuclear war and its consequences, is expected to increase amid the Russian-Ukrainian War of 2022 (RUW-22). This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of nuclear anxiety and its associated variables among university students in the Czech Republic during the first weeks of RUW-22. A cross-sectional survey-based study was carried out from March-April 2022, utilizing a digital self-administered questionnaire (SAQ) to collect data from the target population.

The mental health of adolescents and young adults is at high risk during crisis settings; therefore, this cross-sectional survey-based study aimed to evaluate anxiety and depressive symptoms among university students in the Czech Republic following the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2022 (RUW-22). The study used standardized screening instruments; the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) for anxiety and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depression.

This study stratified outcomes based on a meta-analysis of complications including longitudinal trials comparing the clinical assessment of skin flaps during breast reconstruction. Nine studies met inclusion criteria and reported outcomes of interest (n = 2256).

This species is experiencing an ongoing geographical expansion beyond its native distribution range due to unintentional human introductions. A better knowledge of the genetic diversity, geographic structure and connectivity of its populations is necessary.

The recent literature shows that combining a set of sub-filters trained based on a single or a small group of images obtains the best performance. The idea is equivalent to estimating variable distribution based on the data sampling (bagging), which can be interpreted as finding solutions (variable distribution approximation) directly from sampled data space.

The prognosis is poor and potential curative intent occurs through challenging operations, such as vena cava resection, occasionally multivisceral when required, and vascular reconstruction. There are few retrospective series regarding this retroperitoneal neoplasm, and the aim of the present study was to discuss the experience at the São Paulo Cancer Institute and Clinics Hospital of University of São Paulo Medical School, São Paulo, Brazil.

Decapoda represents the most species-rich order among crustaceans and, despite its ecological and economic importance, little is known about decapod karyology. We aim at cytogenetically characterizing two sympatric prawn species.

Algorithmic approaches could be extremely useful to distill information and derive compact interpretable representations of the statistical patterns present in the data. This paper proposes a mining approach to extract an informative representation of gene expression profiles based on a generative model called the Counting Grid (CG).

In recent scene recognition research images or large image regions are often represented as disorganized "bags" of features which can then be analyzed using models originally developed to capture co-variation of word counts in text. However, image feature counts are likely to be constrained in different ways than word counts in text. For example, as a camera pans upwards from a building entrance over its first few floors and then further up into the sky Fig.

This paper exploits the embedding provided by the counting grid model and proposes a framework for the classification and the analysis of brain MRI images. Each brain, encoded by a count of local features, is mapped into a window on a grid of feature distributions. Similar sample are mapped in close proximity on the grid and their commonalities in their feature distributions are reflected in the overlap of windows on the grid.

Initially, an S-shaped incision is made to gain access to the popliteal fossa. A careful en bloc removal of fat tissue and lymph nodes is made to preserve and avoid the injury of peroneal and tibial nerves as well as popliteal vessels, following the previous recommendations.

The immune system gathers evidence of the execution of various molecular processes, both foreign and the cells' own, as time- and space-varying sets of epitopes, small linear or conformational segments of the proteins involved in these processes. Epitopes do not have any obvious ordering in this scheme: The immune system simply sees these epitope sets as disordered "bags" of simple signatures based on whose contents the actions need to be decided. The immense landscape of possible bags of epitopes is shaped by the cellular pathways in various cells, as well as the characteristics of the internal sampling process that chooses and brings epitopes to cellular surface.

In recent years a particular class of probabilistic graphical models-called topic models-has proven to represent an useful and interpretable tool for understanding and mining microarray data. In this context, such models have been almost only applied in the clustering scenario, whereas the classification task has been disregarded by researchers. In this paper, we thoroughly investigate the use of topic models for classification of microarray data, starting from ideas proposed in other fields (e.

Until recently the 5S rDNA was thought to be subject to concerted evolution, however, in several taxa, sequence divergence levels between the 5S and the NTS were found higher than expected under this model. So, many studies have shown that birth-and-death processes and selection can drive the evolution of 5S rDNA.

Such tasks are usually addressed separately, but recently, statistical techniques have permitted them to be solved jointly. Following this trend we propose a generative model that permits researchers to solve the two problems jointly.
