Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing medical imaging and radiation therapy. AI-powered applications are being deployed to aid Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) in clinical workflows, decision-making, dose optimisation, and a wide range of other tasks. Exploring the levels of AI education provided across the United States is crucial to prepare future graduates to deliver the digital future.

Spontaneous Officinal Plants in the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park: Tradition, Protection, Enhancement, and Recovery.

The aim of this study was to deepen our knowledge on the heritage and traditional uses of some medicinal plants of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park (Salerno province) and to evaluate their productive potential, in order to increase possible uses to recover and enhance the territory. A laboratory experiment for science courses: Sedimentary microbial fuel cells.

Nowadays there is a concern to improve the quality of education by including an interdisciplinary approach of concepts and their integration in the curriculum of scientific disciplines. The development of microbial fuel cells as a potential alternative for production of renewable energies gives undergraduate students the challenge of integrating interdisciplinary concepts in a hot topic of global interest as alternative energies. We present a laboratory experiment that has been part of a third-year undergraduate course in biology where students gained experience in assembling microbial fuel cells and the understanding of how they work.

Towards sustainable management of forest residues in the southern Apennine Mediterranean mountain forests: a scenario-based approach.

Key Message: Managing forest residues according to the carbon content of the soil helps to minimize the ecological footprint of their removal.

Context: In Mediterranean mountain ecosystems, unsustainable harvesting of wood residues might contribute to land degradation, carbon, and nutrient depletion in forest soils.

Aims: This study aimed to assess the amount of forest biomass residues that should be left on-site to minimize the depletion of soil fertility.

Artificial intelligence in radiography: Where are we now and what does the future hold?

Objectives: This paper will outline the status and basic principles of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiography along with some thoughts and suggestions on what the future might hold. While the authors are not always able to separate the current status from future developments in this field, given the speed of innovation in AI, every effort has been made to give a view to the present with projections to the future.

Key Findings: AI is increasingly being integrated within radiography and radiographers will increasingly be working with AI based tools in the future.

Detection of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi associated with pecan () trees by molecular and morphological approaches.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal community associated with pecan () roots and rhizospheric soils was assessed by spore isolation and morphological characterisation and by pyrosequencing of AM molecular markers. The AM fungal community associated with pecan growing in the field, was always more diverse than that associated with pecan growing in containers. This was not observed when AM richness was studied, suggesting that soil disturbance by a reduction in host plant richness leads to a less equitable distribution of AM fungal species, in contrast to natural soils.

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Association in Genetically Modified Drought-Tolerant Corn.

The commercial use of genetically modified (GM) plants has significantly increased worldwide. The interactions between GM plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are of considerable importance given the agricultural and ecological role of AM and the lack of knowledge regarding potential effects of drought-tolerant GM corn ( L.) on AM fungal symbiosis.

Diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in soil from the Pampa Ondulada, Argentina, assessed by pyrosequencing and morphological techniques.

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of agronomic practices on the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal community in soils from the Pampa Ondulada region (Argentina), and to compare conclusions reached when using pyrosequencing or a morphological approach. The AM fungal diversity of 3 agricultural exploitations located in the Pampa Ondulada region (Argentina) was assessed by using 454 amplicon pyrosequencing and morphological (based on spore traits) approaches. Two kinds of soil managements are found in these sites: agronomic and non-agronomic.

Growth dynamics of geographically different arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal isolates belonging to the 'Rhizophagus clade' under monoxenic conditions.

The growth dynamics of extraradical mycelium and spore formation of 14 "Rhizophagus" isolates from different sites in Argentina were evaluated under monoxenic conditions. A modified Gompertz model was used to characterize the development of mycelium and spores for each isolate under the same conditions. The lag time, maximal growth rate and total quantity of both extraradical hyphae and spores were determined.

Evaluation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi capacity to alleviate abiotic stress of olive (Olea europaea L.) plants at different transplant conditions.

The capacity of roots to sense soil physicochemical parameters plays an essential role in maintaining plant nutritional and developmental functions under abiotic stress. These conditions generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plant tissues causing oxidation of proteins and lipids among others. Some plants have developed adaptive mechanisms to counteract such adverse conditions such as symbiotic association with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF).

Sustainability evaluation of Sicily's lemon and orange production: an energy, economic and environmental analysis.

The island of Sicily has a long standing tradition in citrus growing. We evaluated the sustainability of orange and lemon orchards, under organic and conventional farming, using an energy, environmental and economic analysis of the whole production cycle by using a life cycle assessment approach. These orchard systems differ only in terms of a few of the inputs used and the duration of the various agricultural operations.

Continuous and long-term monoxenic culture of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Gigaspora decipiens in root organ culture.

Establishment of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) germplasm collections is complex because of the obligate biotrophic nature of AM fungi. Only a few AM species are routinely maintained in monoxenic culture with Ri T-DNA transformed roots as host. Incorporation of new AM species into this culture system is important for molecular, physiological, and taxonomical studies.

Clark-Baraitser syndrome: report of a new case and review of the literature.

We describe the case of a boy with moderate mental retardation associated with tall stature, obesity, macrocephaly and typical facial features, characterized by a large 'square' forehead, prominent supraorbital ridges, broad nasal tip, prominent lower lip and minor dental anomalies. We think that our proband is affected by Clark-Baraitser syndrome, a rare X-linked mental retardation disorder, to date described only in five male subjects. We present a more complete definition of the clinical phenotype of the syndrome with particular attention to the behavioural aspect that, in combination with the body size and the dysmorphic picture, we think is distinctive for the Clark-Baraitser syndrome.

Carboplatin plus vinorelbine, a new well-tolerated and active regimen for the treatment of extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer: a phase II study. Gruppo Oncologico Centro-Sud-Isole.

Phase I study of carboplatin, cisplatin, and cyclophosphamide without and with lenograstim for the treatment of ovarian cancer.

Cisplatin and carboplatin are both active in ovarian cancer with different toxicity profiles; thus, dose intensification may be possible by combining them. The aim of the present study was to determine the maximum tolerated dose of carboplatin combined with fixed doses of cisplatin and cyclophosphamide without and with support of lenograstim. Cisplatin (60 mg/m(2)), cyclophosphamide (600 mg/m(2)) and carboplatin (starting dose 200 mg/m(2)) were given on day 1 every 3 weeks for 4 cycles.

Oestradiol and testosterone blood levels in patients with viral cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: Patients with alcoholic cirrhosis show hypogonadism and feminization associated with sex hormone imbalance due to enhanced aromatization of testosterone and subsequent reduced testosterone and increased oestradiol blood levels. Because oestrogens modulate hepatocyte proliferation and oestrogen receptors are present in liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, it has been proposed that sex hormone imbalance can play a role in liver carcinogenesis. Trials with the oestrogen receptor antagonist tamoxifen have been performed with conflicting results.

Intraperitoneal chemotherapy with carboplatin and recombinant interferon alpha in ovarian cancer.

Twenty-five patients with Stage III ovarian cancer were entered into a trial with intraperitoneal combinations of carboplatin (400 mg/cqm) and recombinant interferon alfa (50 MU). All patients had received prior intravenous platinum-based chemotherapy and underwent 2nd look laparotomy at study entry. Our study indicates that this combination chemotherapy is safely administered by the intraperitoneal route.

Child with manifestations of dermotrichic syndrome and ichthyosis follicularis-alopecia-photophobia (IFAP) syndrome.

We report on a boy with short stature, mental retardation, seizures, follicular ichthyosis, generalized alopecia, hypohydrosis, enamel dysplasia, photophobia, congenital aganglionic megacolon, inguinal hernia, vertebral, renal and other anomalies, and a normal chromosome constitution. The clinical findings include all the features that dermotrichic and ichthyosis follicularis-alopecia-photophobia (IFAP) syndrome have in common and in addition those that characterize IFAP syndrome (photophobia, recurrent respiratory infections, etc.), those that are present only in dermotrichic syndrome (nail anomalies, hypohydrosis, megacolon, vertebral defects, etc.

Epidemiological and linkage studies on Huntington's disease in Italy.

The results of an epidemiological survey on Huntington's disease in the Lazio Region, Central Italy, and of linkage studies in a subset of families are reported. From a total of 99 ascertained families and 491 patients, a prevalence of 25.6 X 10(-6) was obtained, with distributions of age at onset and age at death similar to those described in the literature.
