Background: The objective of this study is to estimate the burden of selected immunization-preventable infectious diseases in Spain using the Burden of Communicable Diseases in Europe (BCoDE) methodology, as well as focusing on the national immunization programme and potential new inclusions.
Methods: The BCoDE methodology relies on an incidence and pathogen-based approach to calculate disease burden via disability-adjusted life year (DALY) estimates. It considers short and long-term sequelae associated to an infection via outcome trees.
A fast and accurate assessment of liver steatosis is crucial during liver transplantation surgery as it can negatively impact its success. Recent research has shown that near-infrared (NIR) and attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform mid-infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy could be used as real-time quantitative tools to assess steatosis during abdominal surgery. Here, in the frame of a clinical study, we explore the performance of NIR and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy for the direct assessment of steatosis in liver tissues.

However, a significant percentage of patients do not experience improvement in fatty liver after BS, and more than 10% develop new or worsening NAFLD features. Therefore, a question that remains unanswered is why some patients experience resolved NAFLD after BS and others do not.

The objective was to evaluate the prevalence of NAFLD among 261,025 people in the East Valladolid public healthcare area in Spain.
Methods: We randomly selected 1800 participants from a public healthcare system card database, representing most of the population.
Objective: Comirnaty® is an mRNA vaccine against COVID-19 which has been administered to millions of people since the end of 2020. Our aim was to study epidemiological and clinical factors influencing reactogenicity and functional limitation after the first two doses of the vaccine in health care workers (HCWs).
Methods: Prospective post-authorization cohort study to monitor safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.

Objective: The analysis of efficiency represents an area of growing interest in the field of public management. Hospital efficiency depends mainly on the use that the institution makes of its resources and their cost. The importance of hospital efficiency studies is justified by the fact that health spending is the second most important item of public spending.

Bariatric procedure during CIHR can improve recurrence rates without increasing morbidity. This study aimed to describe our results after CIHR in patients with obesity, in which a simultaneous bariatric procedure was performed.

Adults aged 65 years and over are included in the groups for which vaccination against influenza is particularly recommended due to the morbidity associated. A variety of influenza vaccines are available, some of which boosted immunity, are licensed for use only in this specific age group, where the immune response to traditional influenza vaccines may be suboptimal.

In the case of reconstruction with prostheses, the use of a mesh to extend the pectoralis major muscle is often required to partially cover the implant. The main objective of this study was to determine the percentage of complications in immediate breast reconstructions with a titanized mesh using a dual-plane approach and establish risk factors for prosthesis complications and extrusion.

To analyse the effect of influenza vaccination on cardiovascular disease, a systematic search of studies published between 2009-2019 was conducted. All the studies that evaluated the effect of vaccination against influenza on cardiovascular events and their outcome were considered.

Therefore, this study aimed to assess the incidence of potentially surgical abdominal emergency in our center during the epidemic of COVID-19.
Methods: A retrospective study was designed.
Introduction: Influenza is associated with significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Whilst vaccination is key for the prevention of influenza infection, there are many factors which may contribute to reduced vaccine effectiveness, including antigenic evolution via both antigenic drift and egg-adaptations. Due to the currently dissociated and indirect evidence supporting both the occurrence of these two phenomena in the egg-based manufacturing process and their effects on vaccine effectiveness, this topic remains a subject of debate.

Influenza virus infections pose a serious public health problem and vaccination is the most effective public health intervention against them. The current manufacture of influenza vaccines in embryonated chicken eggs entails significant limitations. These limitations have been overcome by producing vaccines in cell culture, which allow a faster and more flexible response to potential pandemic threats.
