Spatial transcriptomics enables a single-cell resolution view of gene expression patterns in tissues, providing insight into their biological functions. However, applying this approach to the skin presents inherent challenges. Here, we present a protocol for preparing mammalian skin samples encompassing hair follicles for spatial transcriptomics.

The aim of this paper was to review the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of combined or sequential use of PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) and CAR-T cell therapies in relapsed/refractory (R/R) haematological malignancies. A systematic literature review was performed until 21 November 2022. Inclusion criteria: cohort studies/clinical trials aimed at evaluating the efficacy and/or safety of the combination of CAR-T cell therapy with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in R/R haematological malignancies, which had reported results.

The presence of oncogene carrying eccDNAs is strongly associated with carcinogenesis and poor patient survival. Tumour biopsies and cancer cell lines are frequently utilized as models to investigate the role of eccDNA in cancer. However, eccDNAs are often lost during the growth of cancer cell lines, questioning the reproducibility of studies utilizing cancer cell line models.

Tumor-associated lymph vessels and lymph node involvement are critical staging criteria in several cancers. In skin squamous cell carcinoma, lymph vessels play a role in cancer development and metastatic spread. However, their relationship with the cancer stem cell niche at early tumor stages remains unclear.

Objectives: Vancomycin therapeutic drug monitoring is challenging, especially in the paediatric population where evidence is scarce. The main objective of this study was to analyse the achievement of therapeutic concentrations of vancomycin in paediatric patients and to evaluate the current monitoring method (trough levels), doses used, and the time required to achieve target concentrations.

Methods: Paediatric patients on treatment and monitored with vancomycin from November 2019 to December 2021 were included.

Background: The SARS-CoV-2 omicron variant produces more symptoms in the upper respiratory tract than in the lower respiratory tract. This form of "common cold" can cause inflammation of the oropharynx and the Eustachian tube, leading to the multiplication of bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae in the oropharynx. Eustachian tube dysfunction facilitates migration of these bacteria to the middle ear, causing inflammation and infection (otitis media), which in turn could lead to further complications such as acute mastoiditis and meningitis.

Article Synopsis
  • - Medical students often experience depressive symptoms, and the COVID-19 pandemic likely worsened their mental health.
  • - A systematic review of studies from December 2019 to December 2020 found that about 31% of medical students reported depression during this period.
  • - The prevalence rates varied by region, with lower rates seen in Asia, especially China, but overall, the depression levels among medical students were similar to those reported in other university students.

The goal of this study was to investigate the distribution of serotypes and clonal composition of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates causing invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in Catalonia, before and after systematic introduction of PCV13. Pneumococcal strains isolated from normally sterile sites obtained from patients of all ages with IPD received between 2013 and 2019 from 25 health centers of Catalonia were included. Two study periods were defined: presystematic vaccination period (2013 and 2015) and systematic vaccination period (SVP) (2017 to 2019).

Background: Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers have been accumulating adverse psychological symptoms due to the closure of educational centers and the need to adapt to different teaching modalities.

Methods: Medline and PubMed were searched for studies on the prevalence of depression, anxiety, stress, and burn-out in teachers, published from 1 December 2019 to 15 June 2021.

Results: In total, eight studies were included in this study.

The KEYNOTE-024 clinical trial showed promising results for pembrolizumab in the first-line of treatment of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the profile of patients in real-world practice differs from those included in this clinical trial. Here, an observational single-center retrospective study was performed through a comparative analysis of clinical outcomes after pembrolizumab therapy according to the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Stage Performance Status (ECOG PS).

The aphid Cockerell, 1901 is an agricultural pest and known vector of strawberry viruses. To better understand its biology and systematics, we performed a genomic analysis on collected from Quinalt strawberry plants from Pacific Grove, Monterey county, California, USA using Oxford Nanopore and Illumina sequencing. The resulting data were used to assemble the aphids complete mitogenome.

Objective: Comparative "real life" data on the effectiveness and safety of ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T) versus other regimens (aminoglycosides/colistin/combination), in the treatment of multi-resistant (MDR) and extremely resistant (XDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), are needed to establish positions.

Methods: Observational, retrospective study of patients with microbiological confirmation of MDR and XDR PA from July 2016 up to December 2018 in a tertiary hospital. Variables: age, sex, comorbidities, risk factors for multidrug resistance, variables related to infection, source of infection, microorganism and type of sample, antibiotic treatment, clinical cure, microbiological cure, recurrence, mortality on admission and 30 days post-discharge.

Background And Objectives: Keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) is the most common cancer worldwide, and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most frequent subtype. Ablative fractional laser (AFL)-assisted drug delivery significantly enhances the uptake of topically applied drugs. The objective of this study was to assess tumor response and perform a descriptive characterization of the local recruitment of immune cells and systemic immune mediator levels in an ultraviolet radiation (UVR)-induced murine SCC model after AFL treatment alone and combined with topical imiquimod.
