Background: Over the last century, animal models have been employed to study the gut-brain axis and its relationship with physiological processes, including those necessary for survival, such as food intake and thermoregulation; those involved in diseases, ranging from inflammation to obesity; and those concerning the development of neurodegenerative diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and autism spectrum disorder, respectively.

Summary: The gut microbiota has been recognized in the last decade as an essential functional component of this axis. Many reports demonstrate that the gut microbiota influences the development of a vast array of physiological processes.

Twenty-five percent of cases of endometrial cancer appear in women with unfulfilled reproductive desires An adequate selection of patients and a close hysteroscopic follow-up to monitor the endometrial response to the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) may be a valid and safe option for these patients This is a case series and review of the literature study. We included eight patients diagnosed of complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia (CEHA) or stage 1AG1 well-differentiated endometrial cancer without myometrial invasion who desired to get pregnant and opted for a conservative treatment. Follow-up was performed with hysteroscopy and directed biopsy at 3, 6 and 12 months.

BACKGROUND Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by endometrial tissue that grows outside the uterus. Deep endometriosis surgery is associated with considerable rates of complications, although such rates are lower in surgical procedures carried out by expert surgical teams. This report details a case of a rare but life-threatening complication in the postoperative period following 72 h of endometriosis surgery: a giant subcapsular hepatic hematoma, which was successfully managed conservatively.

The effects of UV radiation on a viologen derivative, octadecylviologen (OV), in Langmuir monolayers at the air-aqueous solution interface and in Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films have been investigated. Langmuir monolayers suffer a sharp contraction after UV irradiation, clearly visible by the drop in surface pressure or the loss of surface area observed in the surface pressure-area isotherms. The UV-vis reflection measurements reveal a deep change in the OV monolayer caused by a photochemical reaction, which suggests the pyridones formation as photoreaction products.

We have previously reported that maternal separation (MS) for 3 h daily during the first two postnatal weeks increases wakefulness, whereas it reduces sleep in rats. Oleamide, an agonist of the cannabinoid receptor type 1, increases sleep in MS rats to such a level that we cannot differentiate their sleep patterns from those of their non-MS (NMS) siblings. However, 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), an endocannabinoid, infused into the lateral hypothalamus of NMS rats at the beginning of the dark phase of the cycle increases rapid eye movement sleep and the expression of c-Fos on the rapid eye movement sleep promoting melanin-concentrating hormone neurons.

Dehydrins belongs to a large group of highly hydrophilic proteins known as Late Embryogenesis Abundant (LEA) proteins. It is well known that dehydrins are intrinsically disordered plant proteins that accumulate during the late stages of embryogenesis and in response to abiotic stresses; however, the molecular mechanisms by which their functions are carried out are still unclear. Stimulation of the protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1) in vitro, was shown to induce synaptic retrograde signaling through the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) synthesis and activation of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1R). The activation of PAR1 by the agonist S1820 in the lateral hypothalamus (LH) increases rapid eye movement sleep (REMS) and food intake in rats, and both effects are prevented by the CB1R inverse agonist AM251.
