Aim: Relaxin-2, a well-known human hormone primarily associated with pregnancy, has shown promising cardiovascular benefits in both preclinical models and clinical trials. However, its therapeutic potential has been limited due to the short half-life and the short duration of treatment. To address this, we developed AZD3427, a novel long-acting relaxin-2 analogue and assessed its efficacy during prolonged treatment in a large animal model with cardiac dysfunction.

Introduction: Postoperative delirium (POD) is characterized by an acute, fluctuating change in the patient's cognitive capacity, including altered perceptions and inappropriate behavioural changes. Incidence ranges from 4% to 62%, depending on the population and the study. POD has been linked to an increase in morbidity and mortality and a decrease in quality of life.

Refinement of Protein Extraction Protocols for Human Peripheral Nerve Tissue.

Our aim was to establish an effective method for protein extraction from freshly frozen human peripheral nerves, determine the minimum amount required for consistent protein extraction outcomes, and assess which method produced the highest number of protein identities. Five extraction methods were compared using 8 M urea and Ripa buffer using either the Bullet Blender or Bioruptor. Out of the total 2619 identified proteins, protein extraction using the Ripa buffer combined with either Bioruptor or Bullet Blender resulted in the identification of 1582 (60%) and 1615 (62%) proteins, respectively.

Background/aims: Metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has become the most common chronic liver disease, especially in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Liver biopsy remains the gold standard method for diagnosis of MASLD subtypes, but prevalences may be under or overestimated when biopsy is performed with selection bias. The aims of this study were to define prevalence of MASLD subtypes by liver biopsy in T2DM participants not selected by abnormal exams, determine variables associated with metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and analyze performance of aminotransferases and abdominal ultrasound in diagnosis.

Efficacy of transcatheter edge-to-edge repair for cardiac implantable electronic device-associated tricuspid regurgitation: insights from the TRI-SPA registry.

Introduction And Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (T-TEER) in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs).

Methods: This subanalysis of the Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair in Spain (TRI-SPA) registry included patients with at least severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) who were treated with T-TEER between June 2020 and May 2023 in Spain. Patients with CIEDs and no or mild tricuspid lead-leaflet interaction were compared with those without CIEDs.

In this paper, we enhance the Best-Worst Scaling (BWS) method by incorporating participants' preference uncertainty into the conventional BWS, known as case 1. In this context, respondents are tasked with making trade-offs among a set of items of interest. Applying this novel extended BWS method to a sample of Argentinian wine consumers (n = 342), we aim to a) provide a more informative elicitation of consumers' relative preferences for 16 wine attributes; b) identify the level of uncertainty with each of the attributes, exploring differences between the most and least important wine attributes influencing purchasing wine; and c) compare the results of the extended BWS with the standard BWS.

All species must partition resources among the processes that underly growth, survival, and reproduction. The resulting demographic trade-offs constrain the range of viable life-history strategies and are hypothesized to promote local coexistence. Tropical forests pose ideal systems to study demographic trade-offs as they have a high diversity of coexisting tree species whose life-history strategies tend to align along two orthogonal axes of variation: a growth-survival trade-off that separates species with fast growth from species with high survival and a stature-recruitment trade-off that separates species that achieve large stature from species with high recruitment.
