The goal of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) in Spain. The AQ is a 29-item instrument designed to measure the different dimensions of the hostility/anger/aggression construct. It consists of 4 subscales that assess: (a) anger, (b) hostility, (c) verbal aggression, and (d) physical aggression.

The most common diagnoses were skin or soft-tissue abscesses and lower-extremity infections associated with diabetes.

Materials And Methods: The laparoscopic DS (LapDS) operation is described, and the early surgical outcomes of 16 patients are reported.
Results: Postoperative stay was 5 to 8 days.
Objectives: To determine whether the process responsible for the mismatch negativity (MMN) might be involved in the analysis of temporal sound patterns for information.
Methods: Synthesized musical instrument tones of 'clarinet' timbre were delivered in a continuous sequence at 16 tones/s, such that there was virtually no N1 potential to each individual tone. The standard sequence comprised 4 or 5 adjacent notes of the diatonic scale, presented either as a regularly repeated, rising pattern or pseudo-randomly.
Objective: Experiments were performed to examine the effect of chronic inhibition of the Na(+)/H(+) exchanger isoform-1 (NHE-1) on cardiac hypertrophy of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).
Methods: SHR were orally treated during 1 month with two different doses (0.3 and 3.
A rapid and selective liquid chromatographic method was developed to detect 6 sulfonamides, 3 nitrofurans, and chloramphenicol residues in pasteurized milk. The 10 drugs were extracted with chloroform-acetone and the organic phase was evaporated; the residues were dissolved in an aqueous sodium acetate buffer solution 0.02M (pH = 4.

Design: Noncomparative interventional case series.
Participants: The participants included 256 patients with newly diagnosed choroidal melanoma.

Purpose: The aim of this article was to investigate the safety, outcome, length of stay, and cost of hospital admission in patients with Crohn's disease who underwent laparoscopy compared with open surgery.
Methods: Among 51 consecutive patients with inflammatory bowel disease (1996-2000), 46 with Crohn's disease were included in this nonrandomized prospective study. Of these, 20 patients underwent laparoscopic surgery and 26 underwent open surgery.
In order to assess the influence of canal paresis and compensation on the yaw-axis rotatory chair test parameters gain and time constant, a study was conducted in 435 patients diagnosed with unilateral peripheral vestibulopathy. Patients were grouped according to the amount of canal paresis found in the caloric test and by the result of a bedside examination of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). The time constant of the VOR diminishes as canal paresis increases and, when using a high-velocity sinusoidal test, there is a similar reduction in gain.

The instruments used were the corresponding transculturally adapted versions of the originals into Spanish. The study included 337 patients with dizziness, independent of location and etiology, who were able to respond to all the items in the questionnaires given before vestibular testing.

Purpose: To report the demographics and clinical features of a large series of patients with orbital metastasis.
Methods: Retrospective chart review on 100 consecutive patients and a literature review on orbital metastasis.
Results: Of 100 patients, the primary tumor site was breast in 53 (53%), prostate gland in 12 (12%), lung in 8 (8%), skin (melanoma) in 6 (6%), kidney in 5 (5%), gastrointestinal tract in 5 (5%), choroid (melanoma) in 2 (2%), parotid gland in 1 (1%), and adrenal gland (neuroblastoma) in 1 (1%).
The authors report a spontaneous, unusual complication of coarctation of the aorta. An 11 year old child was admitted for investigation of chest pain. Cardiovascular examination revealed typical clinical signs of coarctation of the aorta.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAn autocrine/paracrine mechanism is triggered by stretching the myocardium. This mechanism involves release of angiotensin II, release/increased formation of endothelin, activation of the Na(+)/H(+) exchanger, increase in intracellular Na(+), and the increase in the Ca(2+) transient that underlies the slow force response to stretch. The autocrine/paracrine mechanism could explain how changes in afterload alter cardiac contractility.

Objective: To examine the hypothesis that auditory evoked potentials (AEPs) to pitch and timbre change of complex harmonic tones reflect a process of spectral envelope analysis.
Methods: AEPs were recorded to: (1) continuous tones of 'clarinet' timbre whose pitch abruptly rose or fell by 1 or 7 semitones every 0.5 or 1.
Background: The duodenal switch (DS) is a variant of the biliopancreatic diversion (BPD), with a vertical subtotal gastrectomy and pylorus preservation.
Methods: DS was used to treat morbid obesity in 125 patients, with mean BMI 50, with 65% of the patients super obese (SO). Patients have been followed for an intermediate period.
Magmatic carbon dioxide (CO2) degassing has been documented before the 31 March 2000 eruption of Usu volcano, Hokkaido, Japan. Six months before the eruption, an increase in CO2 flux was detected on the summit caldera, from 120 (September 1998) to 340 metric tons per day (September 1999), followed by a sudden decrease to 39 metric tons per day in June 2000, 3 months after the eruption. The change in CO2 flux and seismic observations suggests that before the eruption, advective processes controlled gas migration toward the surface.

Patients: 337 patients seen for non-acute dizziness from peripheral or central origin in a tertiary referral setting.
This study was designed to gain additional insight into the mechanism of the slow force response (SFR) to stretch of cardiac muscle. SFR and changes in intracellular Na(+) concentration ([Na(+)](i)) were assessed in cat papillary muscles stretched from 92% to approximately 98% of L(max). The SFR was 120+/-0.

We report on the surgical technique for surface electro-auditory prosthesis (EAP) implantation, pathological changes occurring at the cochlear nucleus complex (CNC), and its relation with electrical stimulation. Fourteen Macaca fascicularis were operated upon for a translabyrinthine bilateral auditory neurectomy, and simultaneous unilateral EAP implantation. Six animals were not stimulated, and the remaining eight were connected to an external active device.
