Background: Text messages are useful for health promotion and can be modified during public health emergencies.

Purpose: Describe how we developed and implemented a physical activity (PA) text messaging component within a faith-based intervention, modified the text message content in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluated participants' perceptions of the modified text messages.

Research Design And Study Sample: PA promotion text messages were delivered to predominately Spanish-speaking, churchgoing Latino adults ( = 284) in Los Angeles, California.

Zein Nanoparticles Containing Arginine-Phenylalanine-Based Surfactants: Stability, Antimicrobial and Hemolytic Activity.

Although cationic surfactants have a remarkable antimicrobial activity, they present an intrinsic toxicity that discourages their usage. In this work novel zein nanoparticles loaded with arginine-phenylalanine-based surfactants are presented. The nanoparticles were loaded with two single polar head (LAM and PNHC) and two with double amino acid polar head surfactants, arginine-phenylalanine (CPAM, PANHC).

Multiparametric ultrasound of prostate: role in prostate cancer diagnosis.

Recent advances in ultrasonography (US) technology established modalities, such as Doppler-US, HistoScanning, contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS), elastography, and micro-ultrasound. The early results of these US modalities have been promising, although there are limitations including the need for specialized equipment, inconsistent results, lack of standardizations, and external validation. In this review, we identified studies evaluating multiparametric ultrasonography (mpUS), the combination of multiple US modalities, for prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis.

HIV silencing and cell survival signatures in infected T cell reservoirs.

Rare CD4 T cells that contain HIV under antiretroviral therapy represent an important barrier to HIV cure, but the infeasibility of isolating and characterizing these cells in their natural state has led to uncertainty about whether they possess distinctive attributes that HIV cure-directed therapies might exploit. Here we address this challenge using a microfluidic technology that isolates the transcriptomes of HIV-infected cells based solely on the detection of HIV DNA. HIV-DNA memory CD4 T cells in the blood from people receiving antiretroviral therapy showed inhibition of six transcriptomic pathways, including death receptor signalling, necroptosis signalling and antiproliferative Gα12/13 signalling.

Interventions associated with brown adipose tissue activation and the impact on energy expenditure and weight loss: A systematic review.

Background: Brown adipose tissue (BAT) plays a role in modulating energy expenditure. People with obesity have been shown to have reduced activation of BAT. Agents such as β-agonists, capsinoids, thyroid hormone, sildenafil, caffeine, or cold exposure may lead to activation of BAT in humans, potentially modulating metabolism to promote weight loss.

Cationic Surfactants Based on Arginine-Phenylalanine and Arginine-Tryptophan: Synthesis, Aggregation Behavior, Antimicrobial Activity, and Biodegradation.

Cationic surfactants have great potential as drug vehicles and for use in gene therapy (cationic vesicles made from cationic surfactants can encapsulate RNA or DNA for cellular transfer). They can also be used as antimicrobial and antifungal agents to treat human infections. In an era of increasing antimicrobial resistance, the development of new biocompatible surfactants suitable for application as antimicrobial agents is of high interest.

Critical Current Density in -Wave Hubbard Superconductors.

In this work, the Generalized Hubbard Model on a square lattice is applied to evaluate the electrical current density of high critical temperature -wave superconductors with a set of Hamiltonian parameters allowing them to reach critical temperatures close to 100 K. The appropriate set of Hamiltonian parameters permits us to apply our model to real materials, finding a good quantitative fit with important macroscopic superconducting properties such as the critical superconducting temperature (Tc) and the critical current density (Jc). We propose that much as in a dispersive medium, in which the velocity of electrons can be estimated by the gradient of the dispersion relation ∇ε(k), the electron velocity is proportional to ∇E(k) in the superconducting state (where E(k)=(ε(k)-μ)2+Δ2(k) is the dispersion relation of the quasiparticles, and is the electron wave vector).

A Cell Membrane Fusion Assay for the Fish Pathogen Spring Viremia of Carp Virus (SVCV).

Fusion of the infected cell membranes is a characteristic effect of a wide number of viral infections. Spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV), a rhabdovirus causing disease in farmed carp, can induce membrane fusion of the infected cells by shifting the pH of the culture medium to slightly acidic. Membrane fusion leads to the formation of clusters of cell nuclei enclosed in a cell membrane, the so-called syncytia, that can be easily visualized by cell staining and light microscope inspection.

Elective Checkpoint Inhibitor Discontinuation in Metastatic Solid Tumor Patients: A Case Series.

Introduction: Checkpoint inhibitor (CKI) therapy has markedly altered the survival of patients with many solid tumors. It appears clear that 10-40% of patients with a number of metastatic cancers can achieve lengthy remissions following CKI therapy. The optimal duration of treatment or whether treatment can ever be safely stopped is still controversial.

Comprehensive Geriatric Hospital at Home: Adaptation to Referral and Case-Mix Changes During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Objectives: To describe the evolution of a Hospital at Home (HAH) based on comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), including its adaptability to changing case-mixes and pathways during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Design: Observational study of consecutive admissions to a combined step-up (admissions from home) and step-down (hospital discharge) HAH during 3 periods: prepandemic (2018‒February 2020) vs pandemic (March‒December 2020, and January‒December 2021).

Setting And Participants: Participants were all consecutive patients admitted to a CGA-based HAH, located in Barcelona, Spain.

Participant engagement in a community health worker-delivered intervention and type 2 diabetes clinical outcomes: a quasiexperimental study in MexicanAmericans.

Objectives: This study helps to fill the existing research gap related to participant engagement in behavioural interventions and diabetes management. We examined type 2 diabetes control over time among Mexican Americans by level of engagement in a chronic care management (CCM) program that included community health worker (CHW)-delivered multilevel interventions. The programme complemented clinical care and promoted behaviour changes to improve diabetes self-management.

Background: Brazil has a high burden of cervical cancer, even though it is preventable, traceable and treatable. Hence, this study evaluated levels of knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) related to cervical cancer screening and diagnosis and acceptance of self-screening techniques among women aged 24 and greater.

Methods: A cross-sectional KAP survey was administered to n = 4206 women and spanned questions relating to cervical cancer, HPV, speculum, Pap test and colposcopy.

Amphibians have a great diversity of bioactive peptides in their skin. The cDNA prepro-peptide sequencing allowed the identification of five novel mature peptides expressed in the skin of Boana pulchella, four with similar sequences to hylin peptides having a cationic amphipathic-helical structure.
