Biological modelling helps understanding complex processes, like energy metabolism, by predicting pathway compensations and equilibrium under given conditions. When deciphering metabolic adaptations, traditional experiments face challenges due to numerous enzymatic activities, needing modelling to anticipate pathway behaviours and orientate research. This paper aims to implement a constraint-based modelling method of muscular energy metabolism, adaptable to individual situations, energy demands, and complex disease-specific metabolic alterations like muscular dystrophy calpainopathy.

Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the results of GC treatment according to the type of oncological hospital in the State of São Paulo.
Methods: Patients diagnosed with GC between 2000 and 2022 in qualified hospitals for cancer treatment were evaluated by data extracted from the hospital cancer registry.
Cancer cells are known to express the Warburg effect-increased glycolysis and formation of lactic acid even in the presence of oxygen-as well as high glutamine uptake. In tumors, cancer cells are surrounded by collagen, immune cells, and neoangiogenesis. Whether collagen formation, neoangiogenesis, and inflammation in cancer are associated with the Warburg effect needs to be established.

OCCUPATIONAL APPLICATIONSStandard operating procedures (SOPs) in complex industrial settings require a process for change management which can accommodate updates and adapt to changing tasks, roles, and tools. Interviews with users and administrators of SOPs in a large petrochemical company revealed contrasting perceptions of the procedural change process. Administrators (those who write or oversee the procedures, such as at the mid-level management level or "blunt end" of the process) perceived the change process as transparent, accessible, and encouraging for users of procedures at the sharp end, whereas users themselves perceived the process to be opaque and futile.

Methods: A cross-sectional and comparative study analyzed 65 volunteers, both sexes, practicing cross-training (CT). Anthropometry and body composition were assessed, and RMR was measured by IC (FitMate PRO), bioimpedance (BIA-InBody 570), and six predictive equations.
Objectives: A recent European randomized trial - Tracheal Occlusion To Accelerate Lung Growth - demonstrated that fetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO) is associated with increased postnatal survival among infants with severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). However, this differs in middle-income countries such as Brazil, where abortion is illegal and neonatal intensive care is inadequate. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO CRD42023423949) were based on a standardized search of PubMed, Virtual Health Library and Cochrane (n = 1653) in July 2023.
Objective: Analyze the presence of PTSD symptoms and their risk among the pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of pregnant women that received receiving prenatal care at two university hospitals in São Paulo, Brazil, during the COVID-19 pandemic, from April to June 2020. The sociodemographic and health data of the participants and their exposure to individuals suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 were evaluated.
Aims: To evaluate the association between extrapolated time in range (eTIR), measured by self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG), and large-for-gestational-age (LGA) infants in pregnancies with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Methods: Retrospective cohort analysis including singleton pregnancies with T1D who started antenatal care before 20 gestational weeks and delivered live newborns at a Brazilian hospital between 2010 and 2019, with LGA fetuses as the main outcome. Glycemic records acquired using SMBG were categorized as eTIR, extrapolated time below range (eTBR), and extrapolated time above range (eTAR).
Minimal Cut Sets (MCSs) identify sets of reactions which, when removed from a metabolic network, disable certain cellular functions. The traditional search for MCSs within genome-scale metabolic models (GSMMs) targets cellular growth, identifies reaction sets resulting in a lethal phenotype if disrupted, and retrieves a list of corresponding gene, mRNA, or enzyme targets. Using the dual link between MCSs and Elementary Flux Modes (EFMs), our logic programming-based tool aspefm was able to compute MCSs of any size from GSMMs in acceptable run times.

Background: Given the physiological changes during pregnancy, pregnant women are likely to develop recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and pyelonephritis, which may result in adverse obstetric outcomes, including prematurity and low birth weight preeclampsia. However, data on UTI prevalence and bacterial profile in Latin American pregnant women remain scarce, necessitating the present systematic review to address this issue.

Cryopreservation, or the freezing of embryos or sperm, has become a routine part of many research projects involving laboratory mice. In this article, we combine historical and sociological methods to produce a cryopolitical analysis of this less explored aspect of animal research. We provide a longitudinal account of mouse embryo and semen storage and uses in the UK and show that cryopreservation enabled researchers to overcome particular challenges-fears of strain loss, societal disapproval, and genetic drift-in ways which enabled the continued existence of strains and contributed to the scaling up of mouse research since World War II.

We aimed to evaluate lung volume (LV) in fetuses with AWD using three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound (US) and to correlate AWD with the type (omphalocele and gastroschisis) and size of the defect and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
Methods: This prospective observational study included 72 pregnant women with fetuses with AWD and a gestational age <25 weeks.

Objectives: Hospitalization during pregnancy and childbirth increases the risk of Venous Thromboembolism Risk (VTE). This study applied a VTE risk score to all hospitalized pregnant women to ascertain its effectiveness in preventing maternal death from VTE until 3 months after discharge.
Methods: In this interventional study, patients were classified as low- or high-risk according to the VTE risk score (Clinics Hospital risk score).
Background: Integrase strand transfer inhibitor-based regimens are recommended for first-line therapy in human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2). Nonetheless, dolutegravir (DTG) clinical trial data are lacking.
Methods: We conducted a phase 2, single-arm, open-label trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a triple therapy regimen that included DTG in persons with HIV-2 (PWHIV-2) in Portugal.
Interaction has been recognised as an essential lens to understand how cognition is formed in a complex adaptive team such as a multidisciplinary crisis management team (CMT). However, little is known about how interactions within and across CMTs give rise to the multi-team system's overall cognitive functioning, which is essential to avoid breakdowns in coordination. To address this gap, we characterise and compare the component CMTs' role-as-intended (RAI) and role-as-observed (RAO) in adapting to the complexity of managing informational needs.
