Objectives: Diet is important for the appropriate development and maturation of young amateur athletes. The aim of this study was to determine whether young gymnasts were consuming adequate amounts of nutrients, particularly calcium and iron.
Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted in Portugal's Almada and Lisbon regions in 2020.
Introduction: is one of the leading causes of invasive fungal infections worldwide. Cryptococcal meningoencephalitis is the main challenge of antifungal therapy due to high morbidity and mortality rates, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This can be partly attributed to the lack of specific diagnosis difficulty accessing treatment, antifungal resistance and antifungal toxicity.

However, there are few studies that evaluated the influence of selenium supplementation on subclinical mastitis in goats. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of subclinical mastitis in dairy goats supplemented with organic selenium (Se yeast) in a semi-arid region.

The supplementation of antifreeze protein type I (AFP I) to cryopreservation medium has shown improvement in frozen-thawed sperm quality in other species, but its effect on cat semen has not yet been tested. This study aimed to assess the addition of AFP I to cryopreservation medium in domestic cats.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFluorescein (FS) was first used to visualize malignant brain tumors in 1948. FS accumulates in malignant gliomas where the blood-brain barrier is disrupted and provides intraoperative visualization that is similar to preoperative contrast-enhanced T1 images in which gadolinium accumulation is seen. FS can be viewed under white light, but the use of an operating microscope fitted with a dedicated filter (YELLOW 560 nm Filter, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Oberkochen, Germany) allows us to significantly reduce the dose needed to highlight tumoral tissue.

They occur in the yolk sac and the intra-embryonic major arteries, in a narrow window of development. They arise sequentially, starting with primitive erythrocytes in the yolk sac blood islands, progressing to less differentiated erythromyeloid progenitors still in the yolk sac, and culminating with multipotent progenitors, some of which will generate the adult hematopoietic stem cell compartment.

Its organic and highly toxic form, methylmercury (MeHg), easily crosses biological membranes and accumulates in biota. Nevertheless, understanding the mechanisms of dietary MeHg toxicity in fish remains a challenge.

We evaluated the efficacy and residual toxicity of nine commercial insecticides on and their selectivity to the predator ant under laboratory and field conditions. First, to test the insecticides' effectiveness and selectivity, we conducted concentration-response bioassays on both species and the mortalities were recorded 48 h after exposure. Next, rapeseed plants were sprayed following label rate recommendations in the field.

Good management practices such as post-dipping applications (post-milking immersion bath) contribute to the dairy cattle health during lactation and minimize the appearance of mastitis (an infection in the mammary gland). The post-dipping procedure is performed conventionally using iodine-based solutions. The search for therapeutic modalities that are not invasive and do not cause resistance to the microorganisms that cause bovine mastitis instigates the interest of the scientific community.

The knowledge about its chemical composition, as well as the nature and quantity of the active substances present, is important for emergency care in intoxication cases by these substances and to establish adequate chemical and toxicological analysis procedures in forensic laboratories. The aim of this work was to study the prevalence of amphetamine-type stimulants and new psychoactive substances in the states of Bahia and Sergipe, in the northeast region of Brazil, involving samples of drugs seized by the local police forces from 2014 to 2019.

The herbicides glyphosate and saflufenacil, alone or mixed, were tested for weed control under simulated floodplain condition in mesocosms. Glyphosate (1,440 g ha), saflufenacil (120 g ha), or glyphosate (1,440 g ha) + saflufenacil (42, 84, and 168 g ha) were applied firstly; and 75 days after treatment (DAT), glyphosate (1,680 g ha) was applied as a follow-up treatment to control plant regrowth.

Both groups, subjects with and without COVID-19, are formed by Brazilian Portuguese speakers. Speech samples were obtained from 100 patients with mild to severe symptoms of COVID-19, and 100 healthy subjects.

NTM synthesize two polysaccharides proposed to modulate fatty acid metabolism: the ubiquitous 6-O-methylglucose lipopolysaccharide, and the 3-O-methylmannose polysaccharide (MMP) so far detected in rapidly growing mycobacteria. The recent identification of a unique MMP methyltransferase implicated the adjacent genes in MMP biosynthesis.

New possibilities such as Surgery-first and Minimal Presurgical Orthodontics have become extra alternatives for patients, orthodontists, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons, with immediate facial improvements, reduced preparation time, and shorter treatment time. The purpose of this case report was to demonstrate the retreatment of a female patient, dissatisfied with the instability of the compensatory orthodontic treatment, chin deviation, and forward inclination of the maxillary incisors, which was successfully treated with Minimal Presurgical Orthodontic approach associated with customized lingual brackets and virtual planning on the open-source Blender 3D software, where the post-surgical maxillary lingual brackets were also designed. Orthodontic preparation was performed in 5 months.

The fluorophore is based on a styrylflavylium dye, a synthetic analogue of the natural anthocyanin family, with a di-(2-picolyl)amine (DPA) moiety as the metal chelating unit. The substitution pattern of the styrylflavylium core (with tertiary amines on positions 7 and 4') shifts the optical properties of the dye towards the NIR region of the electronic spectra, due to a strong push-pull character over the π-conjugated system.
