An extensive review on phenolic compounds and their potential estrogenic properties on skin physiology.

Polyphenolic compounds constitute a diverse group of natural components commonly occurring in various plant species, known for their potential to exert both beneficial and detrimental effects. Additionally, these polyphenols have also been implicated as endocrine-disrupting (ED) chemicals, raising concerns about their widespread use in the cosmetics industry. In this comprehensive review, we focus on the body of literature pertaining to the estrogenic properties of ED chemicals, with a particular emphasis on the interaction of isoflavones with estrogen receptors.

An adaptive physical activity intervention for overweight adults: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Physical activity (PA) interventions typically include components or doses that are static across participants. Adaptive interventions are dynamic; components or doses change in response to short-term variations in participant's performance. Emerging theory and technologies make adaptive goal setting and feedback interventions feasible.

[Survey of the Council of Residents of the Italian Society of Hygiene (SItI) on the smoking habits of physicians training in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine.].

This study was conducted on a sample of physicians training in Hygiene and Preventive medicine to evaluate their: smoking habits, awareness of the effects of cigarette smoke on health and attitudes regarding antismoking legislation. Data was obtained through administration of an anonymous questionnaire. A total of 220 physicians were interviewed: 27% was found to be a smoker while 45% of smokers stated that they did not want to quit smoking.

[Prevention of oral cancer: practice patterns in a dentists' group].

Annually, 3000 people in our country die for oral cancer. Contrarily to other forms of cancer that require the use of instrumental diagnostic tools, the oral cavity is easy to examine and the cancer is usually preceded by precancerous conditions. The problem of the diagnostic delay can be explained through a underestimation of the lesions of the oral cavity by patients and a lack of sensibilization to prevention topics from dentists.

[Customer satisfaction study in two roman hospitals: comparison between "cook & serve" and "cook & chill"].

We studied patient's satisfaction rate for hospital dishes comparing "cook & chill" method with "cook & serve". As principal instrument we used a comparative questionnaire, anonymous and self-compiled, which is able to evaluate the differences of customer satisfaction's rate between the two methods.

[Alimentary consumptions during the childhood: a pilot study over appreciation of fruit in a Lazio's primary school].

Italian children's diet is featured by too many sugars and animal proteins, few vitamins, mineral salts and fibres, the last ones mainly from fruits and vegetables. The aim of this work was to evaluate what are preferences, frequency and consumption of fruit in a sample of 134 children of a Lazio's Primary School, aged between 7 and 12. Our study has shown that a great children's percentage eats fruit daily, especially in the form of fresh fruit, and that their awareness of fruit's nutritive value is rather satisfactory, notwithstanding the sample's young age.

[Histochemical assessment of immunoreactivity of thyroid peroxidase and its correlation with biochemical activity].

Background: Peroxidase content has been recently evaluated in normal thyroid and in different thyroid disorders by biochemical, histochemical, ultrastructural and immunocytochemical methods Nevertheless immunocytochemical detection of thyroid peroxidase in thyroid samples conventionally processed for histology hes never been done using a commercially available antibody, neither its correlation with the biochemical activity on adjacent samples.

Methods: In this study we have analyzed normal thyroid tissue (3 patients), follicular adenoma (2 patients) and multinodular goiter (2 patients) conventionally processed for histology and stiined by immunocytochemistry (Avidin Biotin System) using a polyclonal (rabbit) antibody for horseradish peroxidase (Serotec). Biochemical assay was performed on adjacent samples according to Hosoya method.

[Subcutaneous emphysema. Complication associated with pneumoperitoneum during videolaparoscopic cholecystectomy].

Diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopy is a safe procedure, which, however, is not without complications. The rare occurrence of subcutaneous emphysema, as a consequence of pneumoperitoneum, following laparoscopic cholecystectomy, is reported.
