["Health promotion: Is it worth it?" A discussion game for training and practice].

In order to strengthen health promotion spreading knowledge is as essential as tackling typical problems of its implementation. Both aspects can be adressed by using game-based learning approaches. To this end, we specifically developed a discussion game divided into four phases of play.

[Quality of life and pain in hospitalized geriatric patients].

Background: To determine objective and subjective indications of quality of life in hospitalized geriatric patients.

Methods: Data were collected on 267 items using standardized interviews of 90 patients, including B-L and SF-36.

Results: In comparison to the control population, geriatric patients have worse SF-36 values; 91% have pain, and 63% depression and elevated B-L values.

There are basic differences between the Dutch and the Austrian systems of prenatal care, care during birth and postpartum care: whereas in the Netherlands every effort is made to keep care within the bounds of the eerste lijn - primary health care with midwives and general practitioners as primary providers - in Austria the federal 'family relief fund' and the 'mother and child passport' program have created an elaborate system in which care during pregnancy is not only free but providing antenatal care brings extra payments to the doctor and taking it brings extra money to the pregnant woman. The workings of both systems and the roles of midwives, doctors, hospitals and health insurers are explained and discussed.
