Background: Techniques in endovascular therapy have evolved to offer a promising alternative to medical therapy alone for Type B aortic dissections (TBADs).

Aim: The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare mortality and overall complications between thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and best medical therapy (BMT) in patients with TBADs.

Methods: We included randomized control trials and prospective or retrospective cohort studies that compared TEVAR and BMT for the treatment of type B aortic dissection.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate whether acetylcholinesterase inhibitors contribute to a higher risk of fractures in dementia patients by conducting a meta-analysis of existing research.
  • - Researchers analyzed seven observational studies with over 564,000 participants and found no significant difference in fracture rates between those taking the inhibitors and those who were not.
  • - The results suggested that long-term use of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors could actually reduce fracture risk, indicating they may be a safe treatment option for cognitive improvement in elderly patients with dementia.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study analyzed four relevant studies involving 687 patients, finding that closed-box prostheses significantly reduced total blood loss compared to open-box prostheses for both unilateral and bilateral TKA.
  • * No notable differences were observed in average transfusion units, length of hospital stay, or total operation time between the two types of prostheses, suggesting closed-box might be more effective specifically for minimizing blood loss.

Background: Herpes Zoster, commonly known as shingles, is a viral infection that affects a significant portion of the adult population; however, its potential role in the onset or progression of neurodegenerative disorders like dementia remains unclear.

Methods: We searched the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane library, and Web of Science. We included any randomized control trials and controlled observational studies as Cross-sectional, prospective, or retrospective cohort and case-control studies that investigated the prevalence of dementia in Herpes Zoster Virus (HZV)-infected patients and HZV-free control group or if the study investigated the prevalence of HZV in demented patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze whether Monocyte Distribution Width (MDW) and Procalcitonin (PCT) could effectively diagnose sepsis by reviewing relevant observational and clinical trials.
  • - Five observational studies with a total of 565 sepsis patients and 781 controls were included, showing that both MDW and PCT levels were significantly higher in sepsis patients, with MDW demonstrating greater statistical significance.
  • - The conclusion indicates that MDW has higher diagnostic accuracy compared to PCT, suggesting it can be a reliable marker for diagnosing sepsis in emergency settings, but further multicenter research is needed to confirm these results.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to clarify the conflicting evidence regarding the relationship between aortic dissection (AD) and lipoprotein (a) (LP(a)), suggesting that higher levels of LP(a) may be linked to AD.
  • The authors conducted a meta-analysis by reviewing multiple databases and including four studies with a total of 678 patients to assess LP(a) levels in AD patients compared to healthy controls.
  • The results showed a significant association where AD patients had higher LP(a) levels and lower levels of triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and total cholesterol (TC), indicating potential implications for future treatments targeting LP(a) in preventing AD.

We aimed to perform a meta-analysis to investigate the value of Cyclophilin C as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in Coronary Artery Disease. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Cochrane library databases were searched. The inclusion criteria were any randomized control trials or controlled observational studies that measured the levels of Cyclophilin C in Coronary Artery disease patients and healthy controls.

Aim: This meta-analysis aims to look at the impact of early intravenous Metoprolol in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) before percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on infarct size, as measured by cardio magnetic resonance (CMR) and left ventricular ejection fraction.

Methods: We searched the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane library, and Web of Science. We included only randomized control trials that reported the use of early intravenous Metoprolol in STEMI before PCI on infarct size, as measured by CMR and left ventricular ejection fraction.
