Article Synopsis
  • Coccidiosis is a major problem in the poultry industry, typically managed with synthetic antibiotics and disinfectants.
  • This study shows that Piper betle L essential oil (PBEO) can effectively combat Eimeria tenella, demonstrating up to 95.33% anticoccidial activity by disrupting oocyst walls and inhibiting sporulation.
  • Key compounds identified in PBEO, such as eugenol, highlight its potential as a natural alternative to conventional treatments, warranting further research into its applications against coccidian parasites.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the prevalence of a zoonotic pathogen in rodents from densely populated coastal areas of Banyuwangi Sub District, Indonesia, which has been less studied despite its significance to public health.
  • - Researchers captured and analyzed 169 rodents from three villages using various methods, revealing two species with infection rates of approximately 23-24% across the villages, with the highest rate found in Kampung Mandar.
  • - Findings showed no significant difference in infection rates between male and female rodents, indicating that both species pose a risk as potential sources of the pathogen for humans in the studied regions.

Ectoparasite infestations are one of the major problems affecting goat and sheep farming. Disease resulting from these infestations can cause changes in physical appearance, such as severe lesions on the skin, and economic consequences in the form of significantly reduced selling prices. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of ectoparasites in the Boyolali district, Central Java, Indonesia.

In this comprehensive review study, we addressed the challenge posed by ticks and tick-borne diseases (TBDs) with growing incidence affecting human and animal health worldwide. Data and perspectives were collected from different countries and regions worldwide, including America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The results updated the current situation with ticks and TBD and how it is perceived by society with information bias and gaps.

Background And Aim: Fasciolosis due to is endemic to tropical countries and in temperate climates, highly detrimental to livestock and known as foodborne zoonotic diseases. The strategic control of the disease is mainly the use of chemical anthelmintic. This study aimed to evaluate the anthelmintic properties of extract on the ova and adult stages of .

Article Synopsis
  • Fasciolosis is a parasitic disease that affects the liver and bile ducts in livestock, making control measures crucial in areas where it is common.
  • This study examines the impact of ethanolic extracts on different life stages of the parasite, showing that varying concentrations significantly reduced the development of eggs and killed adult flukes within certain time frames.
  • The findings suggest that the extract possesses effective anthelmintic properties against the parasite F. gigantica, evidenced by observed damage to the parasites' structures.

Article Synopsis
  • Fasciolosis, a significant foodborne disease caused by Fasciola sp., primarily affects cattle and poses a risk to Veterinary Public Health due to its zoonotic nature.
  • A study conducted on 585 cattle at Ampel abbatoir in Central Java, Indonesia, from February to August 2022, found a high prevalence of 25.12%, particularly in Ongole breed, females, older cattle, and those from outside Boyolali district.
  • The findings highlight the need for ongoing epidemiological research and preventative measures to minimize the risk of fasciolosis, which impacts both cattle health and poses potential human health risks.

Article Synopsis
  • The research highlights the first report of certain babesial infections in Indonesia, noting that these infections can persist after treatment, potentially allowing recovered cattle to spread the disease through tick vectors.
  • The investigation also collected ticks from affected cattle, identifying a specific tick species as a likely vector, and emphasizes the need for increased farmer awareness and strategies for tick control to prevent disease spread in Java's busy livestock trade.

Background And Aim: is the vector of dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever, chikungunya, and, most recently, Zika. Dengue fever is one of Indonesia's endemic diseases. The principal tool for preventing dengue is controlling by chemical insecticides since vaccine against dengue is still under research.

Background And Aim: The attention to rabbit meat production in Indonesia is comparatively less to other farm animals such as cattle and poultry industries. However, future prospect of rabbit to be seriously industrialized seemed quite promising due to rabbit is highly productive and has short reproduction cycle as well as generation interval. One of the diseases infecting many rabbits is coccidiosis caused by protozoan parasite, spp.

The number of bovine coccidiosis cases is generally high and distributed worldwide. It can reach up to 100% in the early weeks of age in calves and has a corresponding impact on further cattle development and the economic outcome. For these reasons, this study was conducted to detect the presence of Eimeria spp.

Avian coccidiosis is a huge problem worldwide. Heavily infected animals that show severe clinical signs and coccidiostat resistance are causing important economic losses. The present study aimed to update the recent cases of coccidiosis in Central Java, Indonesia, and to show the importance of the disease in the region.

Aedes aegypti is the primary vector of various relevant arthropod-borne viral infectious diseases worldwide. The mosquito control is still mainly performed by using insecticides but their effectiveness is increasingly questioned nowadays. We here conducted a study on Ae.

Background: Aedes aegypti is the main vector of several arthropod-borne viral infections in the tropics profoundly affecting humans, such as dengue fever (DF), West Nile (WN), chikungunya and more recently Zika. Eradication of Aedes still largely depends on insecticides, which is the most cost-effective strategy, and often inefficient due to resistance development in exposed Aedes populations. We here conducted a study of Ae.

During first merogony Eimeria bovis forms large macromeronts in endothelial host cells containing >120 000 merozoites I. During multiplication, large amounts of cholesterol are indispensable for the enormous offspring membrane production. Cholesterol auxotrophy was proven for other apicomplexan parasites.

Eimeria bovis macromeront formation in bovine endothelial host cells is an energy- and nutrient-demanding process. Obligate intracellular replicating coccidians are generally considered as auxotrophic for cholesterol synthesis and scavenge cholesterol from the host cell by either enhancing the uptake of extracellular cholesterol sources or by upregulating the host cellular de novo biosynthesis. We here focused on the latter mechanism and analyzed the effects of several inhibitors targeting the host cellular mevalonate biosynthesis pathway and cholesterol processing.
