Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a deep learning model (DLM) in improving the sensitivity of neurosurgery residents to detect intracranial aneurysms on CT angiography (CTA) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH).

Methods: In this diagnostic accuracy study, a set of 104 CTA scans of aSAH patients containing a total of 126 aneurysms were presented to three blinded neurosurgery residents (a first-year, third-year, and fifth-year resident), who individually assessed them for aneurysms. After the initial reading, the residents were given the predictions of a dedicated DLM previously established for automated detection and segmentation of intracranial aneurysms.

Background: In the past decades, cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) was established as a non-invasive tool supporting the diagnosis of myocarditis and there is often reluctance in performing EMB due to potentially severe complications. We sought to identify patient subgroups that could still benefit from EMB in the CMR era.

Methods: Data of patients presenting with myocarditis between 01/2016 and 06/2023 were analysed according to patient risks.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates a new imaging technique called Relaxation-Enhanced Angiography without Contrast and Triggering (REACT) for visualizing abdominal arteries without the use of contrast agents, comparing its effectiveness to traditional 4D contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (4D CE-MRA).
  • Thirty patients participated, and two radiologists assessed the quality of images and detected any issues like stenosis or vascular anomalies using a structured scale.
  • The results showed that REACT had a longer total scan time than 4D CE-MRA but still performed well, detecting a high percentage of relevant stenoses and other vascular findings with image quality comparable to 4D CE-MRA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze how helical pitch and gantry rotation time affect image quality and file size in ultrahigh-resolution photon-counting CT scans of cadaveric specimens.
  • Scans were conducted with varying pitches and rotation times, revealing that while scan duration differed significantly, image quality decreased with high-pitch and short rotation protocols despite consistent dose measures.
  • Findings indicate that careful selection of pitch and rotation time is crucial for optimizing image quality in clinical practices, as longer acquisition times lead to significantly larger raw data sizes, which can limit practical use.
