It takes two: Infants' moderate negative reactivity and maternal sensitivity predict self-regulation in the preschool years.

The aim of this longitudinal study was to examine the association of infant fussing and crying with self-regulation in toddlerhood and the preschool years, as well as the moderating role of maternal sensitivity therein. When children ( = 149, 53.69% boys) were 6 months old, parents reported on their fussing and crying using a cry diary, and maternal sensitivity was coded during a novel toy procedure.

Typologies of dyadic mother-infant emotion regulation following immunization.

Mother-infant dyadic emotion regulation - the joint modulation of affective rhythms as interactive partners dynamically respond to each other across time - has been shown to promote social-emotional wellbeing both during and beyond infancy. Although contributions of dyadic regulation to self-regulatory development may particularly apparent during infant distress, studies have traditionally examined dyadic regulation in low-stress contexts. The present study addresses this gap by identifying distinct patterns of mother-infant dyadic emotion regulation following a highly distressing immunization procedure and then examining how these groups differed in mother and infant personality and temperament characteristics.

The Maryland Resilience Breakthrough Series Collaborative: A Quality Improvement Initiative for Children's Mental Health Services Providers.

The Maryland Resilience Breakthrough Series Collaborative (BSC), a recent quality improvement initiative for children's mental health services providers, is aimed at bridging the gap between resilience theory and mental health service practices. Six provider teams across the state attended resilience training sessions and incrementally implemented practice improvements at their agencies. Group discussions and surveys administered to teams before and after the BSC indicate that the BSC facilitated breakthrough changes in the areas of resilience-enhanced assessment and treatment practices, as well as family and community resilience.

Cigarette Smoking and Neonatal Outcomes in Depressed and Non-Depressed Opioid-Dependent Agonist-Maintained Pregnant Patients.

AIMS: To investigate whether cigarette smoking and/or depression contribute to neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) severity. DESIGN: Cohort study analyzing data from a randomized, controlled trial of methadone versus buprenorphine. SETTING: Seven study sites that randomized patients to study conditions and provided comprehensive addiction treatment to pregnant patients.
