Piezoelectric dynamic therapy (PzDT) is an effective method of tumor treatment by using piezoelectric polarization to generate reactive oxygen species. In this paper, two-dimensional Cu-doped BiOCl nanosheets with surface vacancies are produced by the photoetching strategy. Under ultrasound, a built-in electric field is generated to promote the electron and hole separation.

Nevertheless, researchers are still controversial about the key technical difficulties in the modulation of piezoelectric sonosensitizers for tumor therapy applications, which is undoubtedly a major obstacle to the performance modulation of piezoelectric sonosensitizers. Clarification of this challenge will be beneficial to the design and optimization of piezoelectric sonosensitizers in the future.

Here, a phase-junction nanomaterial (amorphous-crystalline CuS-AgS) is designed and prepared through a simple room temperature ion-exchange process. A small amount of Ag is added into CuS nanocrystals, which transforms CuS into amorphous phased CuS and produces crystalline AgS simultaneously.

Hence, a bi-catalytic nanoplatform, which promotes the anti-tumor activity through "charging empowerment" and "mutual complementation" processes involved in enzymatic and pyroelectric catalysis, by loading ultra-small nanoparticles (USNPs) of pyroelectric ZnSnO onto MXene nanozyme (VCT nanosheets), is developed. Here, the VCT nanosheets exhibit enhanced peroxidase activity by reacting V with HO to generate toxic ·OH, accelerated by the near-infrared (NIR) light mediated heat effect.

Herein, we propose tunable zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIFs)-engineered biodegradable nanozymes for ferroptosis mediated by both reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen species (RNS). l-Arginine is utilized as an exogenous nitric oxide donor and loaded into hollow ZIFs@MnO artificial nanozymes, which are formed by etching ZIFs with potassium permanganate and simultaneously generating a MnO shell .

In this study, orthorhombic ZnSnO quantum dots (QDs) with piezo-photoelectronic effects are successfully encapsulated in hexagonal upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) using a one-pot thermal decomposition method to form an all-in-one watermelon-like structured sono-photosensitizer (ZnSnO @UCNPs). The excited near-infrared light has high penetration depth, and the watermelon-like structure allows for full contact between the UCNPs and ZnSnO QDs, achieving ultrahigh Förster resonance energy transfer efficiency of up to 80.

Therefore, triggering immunogenic cell death and establishing a long-term, mutually reinforced treatment modality are urgent challenges. In this study, ultrathin CaBi Nb O nanosheets with tunable oxygen vacancies (abbreviated as CBNO-OV1) are prepared for synergistic necroptosis and immunotherapy.

Currently, researchers are focused on solving the biomedical challenges associated with traditional anti-tumor medical methods, promoting the research and development of nano-drug carriers and new nano-drugs, which brings great hope for improving the curative effect and reducing toxic and side effects. Among the new systems being investigated, piezoelectric nano biomaterials, including ferroelectrics, piezoelectric and pyroelectric materials, have recently received extensive attention for antitumor applications.

However, it is difficult to achieve satisfactory anticancer efficacy using clinical radiotherapy for the majority of solid tumors due to the restrictions brought about by the tumor hypoxia, insufficient DNA damage, and rapid DNA repair during and after treatment. Inspired by the complementary advantages of nitric oxide (NO) and X-ray-induced photodynamic therapy, we herein report a two-dimensional nanoplatform by the integration of the NO donor-modified LiYF:Ce scintillator and graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets for on-demand generation of highly cytotoxic peroxynitrite (ONOO).
