CRF01_AE and CRF07_BC are predominant circulating HIV-1 subtypes in China. In this study, we report two novel HIV-1 CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC recombinant forms isolated from one man who has sex with men (MSM) (BDD027) and one mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) case (BDL123) in Baoding City, Hebei Province, China. The recombination breakpoint analysis showed that the recombination pattern of the near-full-length genome of BDD027 consisted of two CRF07_BC fragments inserted into a CRF01_AE backbone, while the recombination pattern of the near-full-length genome of BDL123 consisted of one CRF01_AE fragment inserted into a CRF07_BC backbone.

Given the devastating effects and potential rising trends of compound drought and heatwave (CDH) events under the specter of global warming, this study embarks on a comprehensive examination of their spatial and temporal evolution, as well as the intrinsic drivers. This study identified CDH events based on the non-stationary standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (NSPEI) and the relative threshold method. The study also quantified the spatial and temporal patterns of frequency, intensity, and duration of CDH events across different climatic sub-regions, quantifying the contribution of drought-heatwave interdependence to these events and assessing the impact of single extreme climate events on their proliferation.

Recombinant HIV-1 genomes identified in three or more epidemiological unrelated individuals are defined as circulating recombinant forms (CRFs). CRFs can further recombine with other pure subtypes or recombinants to produce secondary recombinants. The intact proviral DNA assay (IPDA) based on droplet digital PCR was developed to identify intact proviral DNA and quantify HIV-1 latency reservoirs in patients infected with HIV-1. However, the genetic characteristics of different HIV-1 subtypes are non-consistent due to their high mutation and recombination rates. Here, we identified that the IPDA based on the sequences features of an HIV-1 subtype could not effectively detect different HIV-1 subtypes due to the high diversity of HIV-1.

Biochar-derived dissolved organic matter (BDOM) has the potential to influence the environmental application of biochar and the behavior of heavy metals. In this study, the binding properties of BDOM derived from livestock manure biochar at different pyrolysis temperatures with Cu(II) were investigated based on a multi-analytical approach. The results showed that the DOC concentration, aromatics, and humification degree of BDOM were higher in the process of low pyrolysis of biochar.

Dendrites growth and unstable interfacial Li transport hinder the practical application of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, we report an active layer of 2,4,6-trihydroxy benzene sulfonyl fluorine on copper substrate that induces oriented Li deposition and generates highly crystalline solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) to achieve high-performance LMBs. The lithiophilic -SO groups of highly crystalline SEI accept the rapidly transported Li ions and form a dense inner layer of LiF and Li N, which regulate Li plating morphology along the (110) crystal surface toward dendrite-free Li anode.

The evolution of metallo-beta-lactamase CphA in discontinuous gradient concentration of imipenem was investigated in this work. The results suggested that single-base mutations K218R, K249T, K249M, Q253H, and a frameshift mutation M1 were observed. Compared with wild type, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MICs) of K249T, K249M, and M1 increased by at least 128 times and that of K218R increased by 64 times.

One of the resistance mechanisms of superbugs is to hydrolyze antibiotics by producing metallo-β-lactamases (MβLs). To verify how MβLs evolved to increase in activity in response to various β-lactam antibiotics, the mutation and evolution of CphA from Aeromonas hydrophila (Zn-dependent MβL) was investigated in a medium with a continuous biapenem (BIA) concentration gradient. We analyzed the near full-length genome (NFLG) of an HIV-1-positive sample(027A) with an undetermined subtype to determine the recombinant characteristics and possible source of the parental virus. 027A is a novel HIV-1 second-generation recombinant form composed of CRF01_AE and subtype B, detected from a married HIV-1-positive male subject who was infected through homosexual transmission in Baoding, Hebei province, China. The NFLG phylogenetic tree analysis suggested that the strain was close to circulation recombinant forms' (CRFs') reference sequences involved with CRF01_AE, but formed a distinct monophyletic cluster separately from them.

The recognition and interaction of FEZ-1 from Legionella (FEZ-1) with penicillin V(PV) and cefoxitin(CFX) were investigated using fluorescence spectra in combination with molecular dynamics simulation (MD). The results revealed that the CFX bind with FEZ-1 in stronger interaction and induced larger conformational change than PV, despite all being forced by the electrostatic interaction and along with the changing in an environment of amino acid residues as well as the polypeptide skeleton inside the FEZ-1. Moreover, only the loop1, loop2, and N-terminal were observed locating near the binding pocket of FEZ-1, consisting of a flexible "gate-like" zone with better adaptability that controlled the entrance of antibiotic into the pocket by allowing the newly introduced antibiotic to match the pocket better through the conformational changes of these three substructures in the binding procedure.
