Monodispersed manganese oxide (Mn1-xCox)3O4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) nanoparticles, less than 10 nm size, are respectively synthesized via a facile thermolysis method at a rather low temperature, ranging from 90 to 100 °C, without any inertia gas for protection. The influences of the Co dopant content on the critical reaction temperature required for the nanoparticle formation, electronic band structures, magnetic properties, and the microwave absorption capability of (Mn1-xCox)3O4 are comprehensively investigated by means of both experimental and theoretical approaches including powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), super conductivity quantum interference device (SQUID) examination, and first-principle simulations.

In this paper, we report the facile synthesis of ultrathin barium titanate (BaTiO3) nanowires with gram-level yield via a simple one-step hydrothermal treatment. Our BaTiO3 nanowires have unique features: single crystalline, uniform size distribution and ultra high aspect ratio. The synergistic effects including both Ostwald ripening and cation exchange reaction are responsible for the growth of the ultrathin BaTiO3 nanowires.

IR-780 iodide is a near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence dye with higher and more stable fluorescence intensity than clinically applied dye indocyanine green (ICG). Meanwhile, IR-780 can be utilized in photothermal therapy with laser irradiation. IR-780 is an important theranostic agent but its lipophilicity limited its application.

Nanomedcine holds great potential in cancer therapy due to its flexibility on drug delivery, protection, releasing, and targeting. Epigenetic drugs, such as 2'-deoxy-5-azacytidine (DAC), are able to cause reactive expression of tumor suppressor genes (TSG) in human cancers and, therefore, might be able to enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapy. In this report, we fabricated a lipid-polymer nanoparticle for codelivery of epigenetic drug DAC and traditional chemotherapeutic drug (DOX) to cancer cells and monitored the growth inhibition of the hybrid nanoparticles (NPs) on cancer cells.

A combination of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy has emerged as a promising strategy for cancer therapy. To ensure the chemotherapeutic drug and photothermal agent could be simultaneously delivered to a tumor region to exert their synergistic effect, a safe and efficient delivery system is highly desirable. Herein, we fabricated doxorubicin (DOX) and indocyanine green (ICG) loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)-lecithin-polyethylene glycol (PEG) nanoparticles (DINPs) using a single-step sonication method.

Objective: To explore the age-related changes of blood supply and extracellular space volume in normal adult inferior rectus muscle, evaluate the microcirculation in extraocular muscle and offer important information for the diagnosis and treatment of extraocular muscle disorders.

Methods: A total of 250 patients undergoing nose-sinus dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging were studied. Five groups were divided according to age (20 - 30 yr old, 30 - 40 yr old, 40 - 50 yr old, 50 - 60 yr old and over 60 yr old).

Uniform BaTiO(3) nano-torus with either concave or epicenter holes were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Experimental observations indicated that the BaTiO(3) nano-torus with an average diameter ranging from 50 to 100 nm was of tetragonal phases at room temperature. The morphology of the BaTiO(3) nano-torus depends on the shape of the original titanium dioxide precursor and reaction time.

Highly efficient Li(4)SiO(4) (lithium orthosilicate)-based sorbents for CO(2) capture at high temperature, was developed using waste materials (rice husk ash). Two treated rice husk ash (RHA) samples (RHA1 and RHA2) were prepared and calcined at 800°C in the presence of Li(2)CO(3). Pure Li(4)SiO(4) and RHA-based sorbents were characterized by X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption, and thermogravimetry.

Iodine-modified calcium-based rice husk ash sorbents (I2/CaO/RHA) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and N2 isotherm adsorption/desorption. Adsorption experiments of vapor-phase elemental mercury (Hg0) were performed in a laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor. I2/CaO/RHA performances on Hg0 adsorption were compared with those of modified Ca-based fly ash sorbents (I2/CaO/FA) and modified fly ash sorbents (I2/FA).

Background: Amblyopia is a common ophthalmological condition and the wavefront aberrometer is a relatively new diagnostic tool used globally to measure optical characteristics of human eyes as well as to study refractive errors in amblyopic eyes. We studied the wavefront aberration of the amblyopic children's eyes and analyzed the mechanism of the wavefront aberration in the formation of the amblyopia, try to investigate the new evidence of the treatment of the amblyopia, especially in the refractory amblyopia.

Methods: The WaveScan Wavefront System (VISX, USA) aberrometer was used to investigate four groups of children under dark accommodation and cilliary muscle paralysis.

A very simple, efficient, and regiospecific protocol for aminobromination of a wide scope of beta-nitrostyrene derivatives with N-bromoacetamide (NBA) as nitrogen/bromine sources has been developed by using K(3)PO(4) as catalyst. The reaction proceeded smoothly and cleanly to give the bromoamines in good to excellent yields (78-99%) within 24 h in CH(2)Cl(2) at room temperature without protection of inert gases. A possible mechanism involving a nucleophilic conjugate addition was proposed.

The regio- and stereoselective aminobromination of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones catalyzed by copper powder has been established with 4-TsNH(2) and NBS as the nitrogen/bromine sources, respectively. This method provides an easy access for preparation of vicinal aminohalo derivatives in the presence of 1 mol % catalyst. Electron-rich alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones afforded the corresponding aminobrominated products in excellent yields (up to 99.
