Article Synopsis
  • Human β-defensin-1 (hBD-1) may help the immune system fight colorectal cancer by influencing the mTOR pathway and promoting autophagy in colon cancer cells (SW620).
  • In experiments, hBD-1 reduced the growth of SW620 cells and showed a decrease in mTOR activity while increasing proteins associated with autophagy (Beclin1 and LC3II/I).
  • Bioinformatics analysis identified seven lncRNAs linked to the mTOR pathway, with TCONS_00014506 being particularly important; inhibiting this lncRNA further enhanced hBD-1's effects on mTOR and autophagy.

Objective: To explore the role of p300 in the context of paclitaxel (PTX) resistance in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells, focusing on its interaction with the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1 (PCK1)/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway.

Methods: The expression of p300 and PCK1 at the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) level was detected using a quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The GeneCards and GEPIA databases were used to investigate the relationship between p300 and PCK1.

Introduction: Breast cancer has a strong genetic predisposition, and its genetic architecture is not fully understood thus far. In this study, we aimed to perform a meta-analysis to evaluate the association of genetic alterations in and genes, as well as their receptor-encoded genes with risk for breast cancer.

Methods: Only published studies conducted in humans and written in English were identified by searching PubMed, SCOPUS, CINAHIL and Embase from their inception to October 2022.

Background: Systematic profiling studies have implicated regulators of pre-mRNA splicing as important disease determinants in gastric cancer (GC), but the underlying mechanisms have remained elusive. Here we focused on hnRNPA2B1 splicing factor-dependent mechanisms governing GC development.

Methods: The expression of hnRNPA2B1 was analyzed among the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) datasets of GC and validated at mRNA level.

Sanwei-Tanxiang powder (SWTX), a traditional Mongolian and Tibetan medicine containing a cocktail of active molecules, relieves angina pectoris and improves recovery in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). The pharmacological effect of SWTX on CHD was analyzed at a systemic point of view in our previous studies. The bioinformatics prediction showed that the PI3K/Akt/FoxO3a pathway was one of important pathways of SWTX on treatment of coronary heart disease.

Background: Liver cancer is the second leading cause of worldwide cancer-related death, and it has an increasing incidence rate. To investigate the role of SRC-1 and Twist1 in liver cancer and determine their expression in terms of prognosis for patients with liver cancer and in general for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell lines.

Methods: The present study included a total of 70 patients who underwent liver transplantation or hepatic resection surgeries in our hospital from May 2011 to December 2012.

Currently, the systems for culturing buffalo spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are varied, and their effects are still inconclusive. In this study, we compared the effects of culture systems with undefined (foetal bovine serum) and defined (KnockOut Serum Replacement) materials on the culture of buffalo SSC-like cells. Significantly more DDX4- and UCHL1-positive cells (cultured for 2 days at passage 2) were observed in the defined materials culture system than in the undefined materials system ( < 0.

Background: The high prevalence of alternative splicing among genes implies the importance of genomic complexity in regulating normal physiological processes and diseases such as gastric cancer (GC). The standard form of stem cell marker CD44 (CD44S) and its alternatives with additional exons are reported to play important roles in multiple types of tumors, but the regulation mechanism of CD44 alternative splicing is not fully understood.

Methods: Here the expression of hnRNPK was analyzed among the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort of GC.

Nanos2 belongs to the Nanos gene-coding family and is an important RNA-binding protein that has been shown to have essential roles in male germline stem cells development and self-renewal in mouse. However, little is known about Nanos2 in inchoate buffalo spermatogonia. Here, rapid-amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) was used to obtain the full-length buffalo Nanos2 sequence and bioinformatic analysis revealed a highly conserved Nanos2 sequence between buffalo and other mammalian species.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of potato extract (PE) on cigarette smoke (CS)-induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Methods: PE was first prepared by frozen centrifugation, and its amino acid composition was detected. Toxicity of PE was analyzed by changes in morphology, behavior, routine blood indexes, and biochemical criteria of mice.

Gastric cancer (GC) is among the most frequent types of cancer worldwide. Therefore, understanding the biology of GC tumorigenesis is important for appropriate diagnosis and patient surveillance. The miR-191/425 cluster has been reported to be overexpressed in various human cancers, but the tumorigenic role and clinical significance of miR-191/425 overexpression in gastric carcinogenesis is currently undefined.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of combination of glutamine (GLN) and mitomycin C (MMC) on the human gastric carcinoma cell line MGC-803 in vitro.

Methods: The effects of GLN and MMC were measured by MTT assay, and the interaction between the two agents was evaluated by the median-effect principle. Flow cytometry was used for cell cycle analysis.
