Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored how transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) and slow-paced breathing (SPB) work together to enhance working memory (WM) performance in healthy individuals.
  • - Ninety-six participants underwent four interventions: taVNS, SPB, a combination of both, and a sham treatment, with their WM measured before and after.
  • - Results showed that both taVNS alone and combined with SPB improved WM accuracy for a specific task, but further investigation is needed to fully understand their combined effects.

Objective: To correlate mean platelet volume lymphocyte ratio (MPVLR) and coronary collateral circulation (CCC) in patients with chronic total occlusion (CTO).

Materials And Methods: A total of 643 patients who were hospitalized at a single large academic medical center from January 2020 to October 2021 and had CTO lesions in at least one major coronary artery confirmed by coronary angiography were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided according to the Rentrop criteria into poorly formed CCC (Rentrop grade 0-1, = 235) and well-formed CCC (Rentrop grade 2-3, = 408) groups.

A phytochemical investigation of the roots of Euphorbia fischeriana Steud. led to the isolation of eleven undescribed gallotannins, fishertannins A-K, together with four known analogues. Their structures were elucidated by the comprehensive spectroscopic data including UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS, and NMR, while the absolute configurations of the sugar moiety were determined by the acid hydrolysis and HPLC analyses.

Objective: To compare the clinical benefits of rivaroxaban and warfarin in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) with high bleeding risk.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on patients with high bleeding risk NVAF who were hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between May 31, 2016 and May 31, 2019 and took at least rivaroxaban and warfarin. The clinical benefits of both drugs were assessed by efficacy benefit and safety risk.

This study was designed as a means of comparing the clinical efficacy and long-term outcomes of covered vs bare stent insertion as a treatment for distal malignant biliary obstruction (DMBO) caused by primary common biliary cancer (PCBC).This retrospective study was designed using data collected between January 2012 and December 2019 to assess the short- and long-term outcomes in patients with DMBO caused by PCBC treated by inserting either bare or covered stents were compared.Ninety two patients with DMBO caused by PCBC were divided between bare (n = 51) or covered (n = 41) stent groups.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), the most common subtype of pancreatic cancer, is a highly lethal disease. In this study, we integrated the expression profiles of splicing factors (SFs) of PAAD from RNA-sequencing data to provide a comprehensive view of the clinical significance of SFs. A prognostic index (PI) based on SFs was developed using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) COX analysis.

Background: The associations between dysglycemia and mortality in septic patients with and without diabetes are yet to be confirmed. Our aim was to analyze the association of diabetes and sepsis mortality, and to examine how dysglycemia (hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia and glucose variability) affects in-hospital mortality of patients with suspected sepsis in emergency department (ED) and intensive care units.

Methods: Clinically suspected septic patients admitted to ED were included, and stratified into subgroups according to in-hospital mortality and the presence of diabetes.

Objective: To investigate the expressions of BJ-TSA-9, CK19 and Pre-proGRP mRNA in peripheral blood from the patients with non-small cell lung cancer and analyze their correlations with non-small cell lung cancer.

Methods: The expressions of BJ-TSA-9, CK19 and Pre-proGRP mRNA were detected by nested reverse transcription-PCR assay in peripheral blood from the patients with non-small cell lung cancer (n = 120), benign pulmonary disease (n = 106) and from healthy subjects (n = 80) so as to further investigate their relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis. Meantime we also examined the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of combination detection.

The current study was undertaken to examine the circulating cancer cells of lung cancer patients using a panel of markers and to evaluate the clinical significance of such tests. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 134 lung cancer patients, 106 benign pulmonary disease, and 80 healthy individuals were isolated and assessed by nested reverse transcription-PCR assay for the expression of three different tumor markers, including tumor specific antigen 9 (TSA-9), Keratin 19 (KRT-19), and Pre-progastrin-releasing peptide (Pre-proGRP). Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis showed that the combination of these markers was highly sensitive and specific in differentiating cancer patients from healthy and benign pulmonary disease controls.
