Supramolecular chirality has gained immense attention for great potential, in which the rational engineering strategy facilitates unique helical stacking/assembly, high chiroptical behavior, and prime biomedical activity. In this study, we reported a novel chiral organic donor-acceptor cocrystal based on asymmetrical components of benzo()naphtho(1,2-)thiophene (BNT) and 9-oxo-9H-indeno(1,2-)pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile (DCAF) that exhibited red emission using a simple solution approach. During the self-assembly, a kinetically controlled growth of polar solvent or substrate induction led to the chiral packing and helical morphology twisted by the cooperation of electrostatic potential energy and chirality.

Radioactive iodine-125 (I) seed implantation, a brachytherapy technique, effectively kills tumor cells via X-rays and gamma rays, serving as an alternative therapeutic option following the failure of frontline treatments for various solid tumors. However, tumor radioresistance limits its efficacy. Hydrogen gas has anticancer properties and can enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Sample preparation is an inevitable step in the screening workflow for the identification of unknown pollutants in the aquatic environment. However, the possible loss of pollutants during sample preparation has aroused serious concern but remains not effectively resolved. This study shows that high-risk pollutants omitted in solid-phase extraction (SPE) can be identified via in situ thin-film microextraction (TFME) coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry.

The understanding of the link between the gut-bone axis is growing yearly, but the mechanisms involved are not yet clear. Our study analyzed the role of Sestrin2 (SESN2)pathway in the gut-bone axis. We established an osteoarthritis (OA) model in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats using the anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) procedure, followed by a dietary intervention with varying levels of dietary fiber content for 8 weeks.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are profoundly affected in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through various pathways. However, the role of circRNAs in the radiosensitivity of HCC cells is yet to be explored. In this study, we identified a circRNA-hsa_circ_0006737 (circNOP14) involved in the radiosensitivity of HCC.

A series of 2,3-dihalo-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutanes and 2-halo-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-enes were prepared from commercially available hydrofluoroolefins 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-enes and their H, F and C chemical shifts measured. Some reactions of synthesized 2-halo-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-enes have been investigated. A simple, one-pot procedure for the preparation of a new allene (1,1,4,4,4-pentafluorobuta-1,2-diene) and some of its transformations is presented.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) is shown to be more effective than cold storage in reducing damage from ischemia-reperfusion injury in livers obtained from donors after circulatory death (DCD), although the specifics of how it works are not yet fully understood.
  • - The study involved comparing HMP and cold storage treatments on liver samples, where it was found that HMP reduces inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell death through the SEPRINA3-mediated PI3Kδ/AKT signaling pathway.
  • - The research highlights SERPINA3 as a key player in protecting liver cells during hypoxia/reoxygenation injury, suggesting that increasing its levels can be a potential therapeutic target for enhancing DCD liver transplantation

In order to analyze the axial compressive properties of ultra-high-toughness cementitious composite (UHTCC)-confined recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), a batch of UHTCC-confined RAC components was designed and manufactured according to the requirements of GB/T50081-2002 specifications. After analyzing the surface failure phenomenon, load-displacement curves, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and parameter analysis of the specimen, the result shows that UHTCC-confined RAC is an effective confinement method, which can effectively improve the mechanical properties and control the degree of surface failure of RAC structures. Compared with the unconfined specimen, the maximum peak load of the UHTCC confinement layer with a thickness of 10 mm and 20 mm increased by 44.

Objective: The association of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk can be modified by chronic systemic inflammation. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a reliable and easily available marker of immune response to various infectious and non-infectious stimuli. The purpose of this study was to assess the combined effects of Lp(a) and NLR in predicting the ASCVD risk and coronary artery plaque traits.

Endothelial dysfunction results in chronic vascular inflammation, which is critical for the development of atherosclerotic diseases. Transcription factor Gata6 has been reported to regulate vascular endothelial cell activation and inflammation in vitro. Here, we aimed to explore the roles and mechanisms of endothelial Gata6 in atherogenesis.

  • * The study focuses on electromagnetic enhancement mechanisms for SERS using advanced microscopy, particularly examining metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structures that leverage strong coupling between different plasmon modes.
  • * Findings reveal that SERS enhancement varies across individual MIM units and that strong coupling can significantly boost enhancement factors, indicating that small arrays composed of just a few units can achieve optimal SERS performance.

Obesity is one of the foremost public health concerns. Human pancreatic lipase (hPL), a crucial digestive enzyme responsible for the digestion of dietary lipids in humans, has been validated as an important therapeutic target for preventing and treating obesity. The serial dilution technique is commonly used to generate solutions with different concentrations and can be easily modified for drug screening.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness and outcomes of percutaneous ablation guided by ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT) in colorectal liver oligometastases (CLOM).

Methods: This study included patients with CLOM treated with percutaneous ablation from January 2008 to January 2021 in this observational study. Only lesions visualized on both CT and US images were further analyzed according to whether patients' initial ablation treatments utilized US guidance or CT guidance.

Organic donor-acceptor complexes as new organic semiconductor class have attracted wide attention, due to their potential applications in functional optoelectronics. Herein, we present two new charge transfer cocrystals of di-cyanodiazafluorene -perylene (DCPE) and di-cyanodiazaflfluorene-pyrene (DCPY) through a rational cocrystal-engineering strategy. Although they are both 1 : 1 mixed stacking cocrystals with similar chemical structures, the DCPE cocrystal possesses a non-centrosymmetric space group and narrower band gap compared to DCPY cocrystal, because of the non-covalent bonding variation.

AlH is a metastable hydride with a theoretical hydrogen capacity of 10.01 wt % and is very easy to decompose during ball milling especially in the presence of many catalysts, which will lead to the attenuation of the available hydrogen capacity. In this work, AlH was ball milled in air (called "air-milling") with layered TiC to prepare a TiC-catalyzed AlH hydrogen storage material.
