Transcriptional regulation of miR528-PPO module by miR156 targeted SPLs orchestrates chilling response in banana.

Banana is sensitive to cold stress and often suffers from chilling injury with browning peel and failure to normal ripening. We have previously reported that banana chilling injury is accompanied by a reduction of miR528 accumulation, alleviating the degradation of its target gene MaPPO and raising ROS levels that cause peel browning. Here, we further revealed that the miR528-MaPPO cold-responsive module was regulated by miR156-targeted SPL transcription factors, and the miR156c-MaSPL4 module was also responsive to cold stress in banana.

Study on eccentric compressive performance of circular double skin concrete filled steel tube connected by thread through inside lining tube.

Connection method of lengthening the steel tube of circular hollow sandwich concrete-filled steel tube by inside lining tube and thread is proposed. Twelve circular hollow sandwich concrete filled steel tubular beam-column connected by thread through inside lining tube are designed and fabricated using the length of the thread along the axial direction, the working height of the thread, and the position of the thread as parameters; In addition, one unconnected specimen and two welded specimens also are designed and fabricated to conduct controlled experimental research. The test phenomena and failure modes, axial compressive load-compression curve, axial compressive load-lateral deflection curve, and axial compressive load-strain in steel tube curve, as well as bearing capacity, strength reservation, deflection curve shape, lateral stiffness, ductility and plane section assumption are analyzed.

Direct oral anticoagulants versus low-molecular-weight heparin in patients with cancer-associated venous thrombosis: a cost-effectiveness analysis.

Background: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have demonstrated clinical benefits and better patient adherence over low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) in treating patients with cancer-associated venous thrombosis (CAT). We aimed to compare the cost-effectiveness of DOACs against LMWH in patients with CAT from the perspective of the Hong Kong healthcare system.

Methods: A Markov state-transition model was performed to estimate the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) per quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) for DOACs and LMWH in a hypothetical cohort of 10,000 patients with CAT over a 5-year lifetime horizon.

Study on the Bending-Shear Properties of Concrete-Filled Circular Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic Steel Tubes.

In order to study the bending-shear performance of CFRP concrete-filled steel tubes, static tests were conducted on 15 circular concrete-filled CFRP steel tube bending-shear specimens. For all specimens, was 120 mm, was 2 mm, and was 1. The shear displacement (-Δ) curve of the specimen and the collaborative work between the steel tube and CFRP are discussed.

Design: This study consists of a systematic review and a cross-sectional survey in Hong Kong. A systematic review of literature following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses was conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane and Embase between 1 January 2000 and 1 January 2022.

Risk of autoimmune diseases following COVID-19 and the potential protective effect from vaccination: a population-based cohort study.

Background: Case reports suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection could lead to immune dysregulation and trigger autoimmunity while COVID-19 vaccination is effective against severe COVID-19 outcomes. We aim to examine the association between COVID-19 and development of autoimmune diseases (ADs), and the potential protective effect of COVID-19 vaccination on such an association.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted in Hong Kong between 1 April 2020 and 15 November 2022.

In vivo photothermal therapy monitored by multi-position calibrated photoacoustic thermometer.

With the ability of monitoring both temperature and photothermal agents, the photoacoustic (PA) imaging is a promising guiding tool for the photothermal therapy (PTT). The calibration line which depicts the relative variation of PA amplitude with the temperature should be obtained before using PA thermometer. In existing study, a calibration line was generated based on the data from one spatial position, and used in the whole region of interesting (ROI).

Cost-Effectiveness of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation in Hong Kong.

Objectives: The emergence of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has revolutionized the prevention of stroke related to nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Several DOACs are available on the market, while the cost-effectiveness comparison among DOACs and vitamin K antagonist (warfarin) in NVAF management in Hong Kong market remains scarce. The objective of this study was to assess the cost-effectiveness of DOACs and warfarin from a Hong Kong public institutional perspective to inform formulary listing decisions.

Treatment-resistant depression and risk of autoimmune diseases: evidence from a population-based cohort and nested case-control study.

Recent literature indicates that patients with depression had increased immune activation. We hypothesised that treatment-resistant depression (TRD), an indicator of non-responsive depression with long-term dysregulated inflammation, could be an independent risk factor for subsequent autoimmune diseases. We performed a cohort study and a nested case-control study to examine the association between TRD and risk of autoimmune diseases, and to explore potential sex-specific difference.

Test on Compressive Performance of Concrete Filled Circular Steel Tube Connected by Thread through Inner Lining Tube.

The connection method of lengthening the steel tube of concrete filled circular steel tubes by inner lining tube and threaded connection is proposed. Taking the length, depth, and position of the thread as the basic parameters, 12 concrete filled circular steel tubes connected by thread through inner lining tube were designed and manufactured, and an axial compressive test was carried out. The axial compressive loading-longitudinal compressive displacement curves, axial compressive loading-strain of steel tube curves, and failure mode of the specimens were analyzed, and the effects of different parameters on the axial compressive bearing capacity and stiffness of the specimens were studied.

Study on Shearing Behavior of Circular Concrete-Filled CFRP (Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastics)-Steel Tube.

Concrete-filled CFRP steel tube (CF-CFRP-ST) structures often suffer from shear loading in practical engineering, such as joints with diagonal braces. To study the shear properties of CF-CFRP-ST, we take the concrete strength and the longitudinal CFRP layers as the main parameters, and static shear tests of overall 9 circular concrete-filled CFRP-steel tube (C-CF-CFRP-ST) and 3 circular concrete-filled steel tube (C-CFST) are carried out. The research is carried out from two aspects: experiment and finite element.

Photoacoustic/Ultrasound Endoscopic Imaging Reconstruction Algorithm Based on the Approximate Gaussian Acoustic Field.

This paper aims to propose a new photoacoustic/ultrasound endoscopic imaging reconstruction algorithm based on the approximate Gaussian acoustic field which significantly improves the resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the out-of-focus region. We demonstrated the method by numerical calculations and investigated the applicability of the algorithm in a chicken breast phantom. The validation was finally performed by the rabbit rectal endoscopy experiment.

Study of the Behavior of Square Concrete-Filled CFRP Steel Tubular under a Bending-Torsion Load.

To study the behavior of square concrete-filled CFRP (carbon fiber polymer) steel tubular under bending-torsional load, nine square section concrete-filled CFRP steel tubular specimens are designed. The T-θ curve and failure mode of square concrete-filled CFRP steel tubular are studied under a bending-torsional load. Based on the test results, a finite element modeling method is proposed by using the finite element software ABAQUS, and the simulation results are compared with the experimental results.
