Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gatti both cause infection in immunocompromised patients. We report a case of meningitis with C. gatti in an AIDS patient.
Sporotrichosis, caused by the fungus Sporothrix schenckii, has been documented in the northern Himalayan and northeastern regions of India, with three native cases reported in Sikkim.
Fluid from the lesions was analyzed, confirming the presence of the fungus and showing a granulomatous reaction, which is indicative of the infection.
Treatment involved potassium iodide, and in one case, itraconazole was also used; increasing awareness and studying the environment are essential to assess the disease's prevalence.
