Introduction: Recommendations for advance care planning (ACP) in persons with cognitive impairment are based on expert input without insight from actual ACP conversations.
Methods: We used thematic analysis to analyze transcripts of ACP conversations for 88 older adults with normal cognition (n = 15), mild cognitive impairment (n = 13), and scores consistent with dementia (n = 60).
Results: Patients with dementia were least verbally active; however, some shared values and identified surrogates.
Unlabelled: Machine learning (ML) based on remote video has shown ideal diagnostic value in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Here, we conducted a meta-analysis of the diagnostic value of home video-based ML in ASD. Relevant articles were systematically searched in PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and Web of Science from inception to September 2023 with no language restriction, and the literature search was updated in September 2024.

Currently, there is no rapid, label-free, and tunable affinity selection platform to enrich covalent reactive peptide binders from synthetic libraries. We address this challenge by developing a reversibly reactive affinity selection platform termed ReAct-ASMS enabled by tandem high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS/MS) to identify covalent peptide binders to native protein targets.

ACP earlier in the disease trajectory is particularly important for people with dementia (PWD) due to its progressive nature affecting their decision-making ability. Considering the well-documented benefits of ACP in improving the quality of end-of-life (EOL) care, the rural vs.

Reduced α-Klotho levels are correlated with chronic kidney disease and other age-related diseases, wherein they are released from membranes into circulation. Klotho's potential physiological action as a hormone is of current scientific interest.

This study aimed to examine the effects of logotherapy-based interventions on Chinese family caregivers of older adults with dementia to decrease caregiver burden. This mixed-methods study used a pre-experimental design with pre-posttests and semi-structured interviews.

In contrast, the encoding mRNA has regions of ordered structure in its 5' untranslated region (UTR). Here, we present an integrated approach to identify small molecules that bind this structured region and inhibit α-synuclein translation.

Despite documented benefits of Advance Care Planning (ACP), it is still under-utilized in the U.S. Our study aimed to examine whether experiencing a loved one's death is associated with one's own ACP behavior among adults in the U.

Guided by a social ecological model, this study examined perceived barriers and sociocultural factors associated with informal ACP conversations among Chinese American older adults. A purposive sample of 281 community-dwelling older Chinese Americans aged 55 years or older in Arizona and Maryland completed a survey in 2018.

The research objective was to examine whether previous medical decision-making involvement for a loved one is associated with one's own ACP conversations with family and the potential mediating effect of knowledge of a loved one's end-of-life treatment preferences. This study employed a cross-sectional design using data from the 2016 Kaiser Family Foundation/The Economist Four-Country Survey on Aging and End-of-Life Medical Care.

However, bone recurrence occurs preferentially in luminal breast cancer. The mechanisms of this subtype-specific organotropism remain elusive.

The spent lead paste that derived from spent LAB is desulfurized and then leached to generate the lead acetate (Pb(Ac)) solution, which is then sprayed directly into a tube furnace to prepare the lead oxide (PbO) product by pyrolysis. The low-impurity lead oxide product (9 mg/kg Fe and 1 mg/kg Ba) is obtained under the optimized conditions (the temperature of 700 °C, the pumping rate of 50 L/h, and the spray rate of 0.

Decreased levels of α-Klotho are a hallmark of age-associated diseases. Detecting or labeling α-Klotho in biological milieu has long been a challenge, however, hampering the understanding of its role.

However, many patients respond poorly to ICB treatment, underscoring an incomplete understanding of PD-L1 regulation and therapy resistance. Here, we find that MTSS1 is downregulated in lung adenocarcinoma, leading to PD-L1 upregulation, impairment of CD8 lymphocyte function, and enhanced tumor progression.

Osteoclasts are known to play crucial roles in osteolytic bone metastasis by digesting bone matrix and indirectly enhancing tumor colonization. In this study, we found that IL receptor 20 subunit β (IL-20RB) mediated a direct tumoral response to osteoclasts.

Metastasis, the major cause of cancer death, represents one of the major challenges in oncology. Scientists are still trying to understand the biological basis underlying the dissemination and outgrowth of tumor cells, why these cells can remain dormant for years, how they become resistant to the immune system or cytotoxic effects of systemic therapy, and how they interact with their new microenvironment. We asked experts to discuss some of the unknowns, advances, and areas of opportunity related to cancer metastasis.

The protumor roles of alternatively activated (M2) tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) have been well established, and macrophage reprogramming is an important therapeutic goal. However, the mechanisms of TAM polarization remain incompletely understood, and effective strategies for macrophage targeting are lacking. Here, we show that miR-182 in macrophages mediates tumor-induced M2 polarization and can be targeted for therapeutic macrophage reprogramming.

Herein, NPs present as crude extracts, partially purified fractions, and pure compounds were screened directly against molecular target libraries of RNA structural motifs in a library-versus-library fashion. We identified 21 hits with affinity for RNA, including one pure NP, nocathiacin I (NOC-I).

Bone metastasis is a frequent symptom of breast cancer and current targeted therapy has limited efficacy. Osteoclasts play critical roles to drive osteolysis and metastatic outgrowth of tumor cells in bone. Previously we identified CST6 as a secretory protein significantly downregulated in bone-metastatic breast cancer cells.
