Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a common cause of vision loss after retinal reattachment surgery and ocular trauma. The key pathogenic mechanisms of PVR development include the proliferation, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPEs) activated by the growth factors and cytokines after surgery. Although some drugs have been tried in PVR treatments as basic investigations, the limited efficacy remains an obstacle, which may be due to the single pharmacological action and lack of targeting.

2D metal halides have attracted increasing research attention in recent years; however, it is still challenging to synthesize them via liquid-phase methods. Here it is demonstrated that a droplet method is simple and efficient for the synthesis of multiclass 2D metal halides, including trivalent (BiI , SbI ), divalent (SnI , GeI ), and monovalent (CuI) ones. Posterior capsule opacification (PCO), the most common complication after cataract surgery, is caused by the proliferation, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of residual lens epithelial cells in the capsule bag. Although the surface modification and drug loading of intraocular lens (IOLs) have been effective in preventing PCO to some extent, the intraocular safety of anti-proliferative drug application is still a major limitation in clinical application. In this study, we used non-viral gene delivery systems in combination with layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly technology, and the modified IOL could effectively prevent the development of PCO by interfering with the EMT process mediated by the platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α (PDGFR-α).

To explore the effects of different long-term fertilization treatments on soil microbial diversity and community structure in the drylands of an agro-pastoral ecotone, a long-term fertilization experiment at the Inner Mongolia cultivated land conservation science observation and experiment station, Ministry of Agriculture, and rural areas was taken as the research object. Four treatments, including no fertilizer (CK), single nitrogen fertilizer (NF), single chemical fertilizer (CF), and the combined application of organic manure and chemical fertilizer (CFM), were selected for the collection of 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm soil at potato maturity 16 years after the experiment (2019). High-throughput sequencing technology was used to assess the soil bacterial and fungal communities to explore the effects of different fertilization measures on soil quality from the perspective of microorganisms, and the partial least squares path model (PLS-PM) was used to reveal the key environmental driving factors of soil microbial community alternation and crop yield improvement in dryland during fertilization mode transformation.

A novel polymer ammonium salt of polyethyleneimine phosphate phosphonic acid (APEMPPA) flame retardant for cotton fabrics was synthesized and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), in which some ammonium phosphoric acid groups were replaced by phosphate ester groups to decrease the phenomena that the ammonium ions in flame retardant would exchange with metal ions such as Ca and Mg in washing water to keep flame retardance well after washing. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results, and durability of treated cotton fabrics suggested that APEMPPA was grafted onto the cellulose. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication is controlled by four promoters (preS1, preS2, Cp, and Xp) and two enhancers (EnhI and EnhII). EnhII stimulates Cp activity to regulate the transcriptions of precore, core, polymerase, and pregenomic RNAs, and therefore, EnhII/Cp is essential for the regulation of HBV replication.
