Article Synopsis
  • - Short carbon chain alkanes, like propane, are difficult to oxidize due to their stability and low polarity, but Ru-based catalysts show promise despite experiencing deactivation during reactions.
  • - The new Ru/Ce@Co catalyst features a unique structure where cerium dioxide is layered over cobalt oxide, allowing for better dispersion of Ru nanoparticles which enhances catalytic activity and stability.
  • - This innovative catalyst maintains high performance even under challenging conditions, improving the oxidation process of propane and offering a new approach for creating efficient Ru-based catalysts for industrial applications.

Pt-based catalysts have attracted widespread attention in environmental protection applications, especially in the catalytic destruction of light alkane pollutants. However, developing a satisfying platinum catalyst with high activity, excellent water-resistance, and practical suitability for hydrocarbon combustion at low temperature is challenging. In this study, the Pt catalyst supported on the selected NbO oxide exhibited an efficient catalytic activity in propane oxidation and exceeded that of most catalysts reported in the literature.
