Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an aggressive cancer type with one of the lowest survival rates due to late diagnosis and the absence of effective treatments. A better understanding of PDAC biology will help researchers to discover the Achilles' heel of cancer cells. In that regard, our research team investigated the function of an emerging oncoprotein known as myoferlin.

Bidirectional interactions between cancer cells and their microenvironment govern tumor progression. Among the stromal cells in this microenvironment, adipocytes have been reported to upregulate cancer cell migration and invasion by producing fatty acids. Conversely, cancer cells alter adipocyte phenotype notably via increased lipolysis.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a fatal disease with poor prognosis. Gemcitabine is the first-line therapy for PDAC, but gemcitabine resistance is a major impediment to achieving satisfactory clinical outcomes. This study investigated whether methylglyoxal (MG), an oncometabolite spontaneously formed as a by-product of glycolysis, notably favors PDAC resistance to gemcitabine.

Whatever the mucosa primary infected, HPV-positive cancers are traditionally associated with a favorable outcome, attributable to a high sensitivity to radiation therapy. However, the direct impact of viral E6/E7 oncoproteins on the intrinsic cellular radiosensitivity (and, globally, on host DNA repair) remains mostly speculative. Using several isogenic cell models expressing HPV16 E6 and/or E7, the effect of viral oncoproteins on global DNA damage response was first investigated by approaches.

Despite extensive research, the 5-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer (PDAC) patients remains at only 9%. Patients often show poor treatment response, due partly to a highly complex tumor microenvironment (TME). Cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) heterogeneity is characteristic of the pancreatic TME, where several CAF subpopulations have been identified, such as myofibroblastic CAFs (myCAFs), inflammatory CAFs (iCAFs), and antigen presenting CAFs (apCAFs).

Introduction: Colorectal cancer remains a public health issue and most colon cancer patients succumb to the development of metastases. Using a specific protocol of pressure-assisted interstitial fluid extrusion to recover soluble biomarkers, we identified paladin as a potential colon cancer liver metastases biomarker.

Methods: Using shRNA gene knockdown, we explored the biological function of paladin in colon cancer cells and investigated the phospho-proteome within colon cancer cells.

Knowledge of material emissivity maps and their true temperatures is of great interest for contactless process monitoring and control with infrared cameras when strong heat transfer and temperature change are involved. This approach is always followed by emissivity or reflections issues. In this work, we describe the development of a contactless infrared imaging technique based on the pyro-reflectometry approach and a specular model of the material reflection in order to overcome emissivities and reflections problems.

Myoferlin, an emerging oncoprotein, has been associated with a low survival in several cancer types including pancreas ductal adenocarcinoma where it controls mitochondria structure and respiratory functions. Owing to the high susceptibility of KRAS-mutated cancer cells to iron-dependent cell death, ferroptosis, and to the high iron content in mitochondria, we investigated the relation existing between mitochondrial integrity and iron-dependent cell death. We discovered that myoferlin targeting with WJ460 pharmacological compound triggered mitophagy and ROS accumulation culminating with lipid peroxidation and apoptosis-independent cell death.

Background: Corynebacterium urealyticum urinary tract infections can result in a rarely reported condition called encrusting cystitis whereby plaque lesions form on and within the urinary bladder mucosa. Chronic lower urinary tract signs manifest subsequent to the infection-induced cystitis and plaque-induced decreased bladder wall distensibility. Because of the organism's multidrug resistance and plaque forming capability, infection eradication can be difficult.

Pancreas ductal adenocarcinoma is one of the deadliest cancers where surgery remains the main survival factor. Mitochondria were described to be involved in tumor aggressiveness in several cancer types including pancreas cancer. We have previously reported that myoferlin controls mitochondrial structure and function, and demonstrated that myoferlin depletion disturbs the mitochondrial dynamics culminating in a mitochondrial fission.

Colon adenocarcinoma is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second deadliest one. Metabolic reprogramming, described as an emerging hallmark of malignant cells, includes the predominant use of glycolysis to produce energy. Recent studies demonstrated that mitochondrial electron transport chain inhibitor reduced colon cancer tumour growth.

Newer urinary protein kidney safety biomarkers can outperform the conventional kidney functional biomarkers blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr) in rats. However, there is far less experience with the relative performance of these biomarkers in dogs and nonhuman primates. Here, we report urine protein biomarker performance in tenofovir-treated cynomolgus monkeys and beagle dogs.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death. Therapeutic options remain very limited and are based on classical chemotherapies. Energy metabolism reprogramming appears as an emerging hallmark of cancer and is considered a therapeutic target with considerable potential.

Repetitive back-and-forth head rotation from vigorous shaking is purported to be a central mechanism responsible for diffuse white matter injury, subdural hemorrhage, and retinal hemorrhage in some cases of abusive head trauma (AHT) in young children. Although animal studies have identified mechanisms of traumatic brain injury (TBI) associated with single rapid head acceleration-decelerations at levels experienced in a motor vehicle crash, few experimental studies have investigated TBI from repetitive head rotations. The objective of this study was to systematically investigate the post-injury pathological time-course after cyclic, low-velocity head rotations in the piglet and compare them with single head rotations.

Acute aerobic exercise may increase cognitive processing speed among tasks demanding a substantial degree of executive function. Few studies have investigated executive function after acute exercise in older adults across various exercise intensities. Healthy females 60-75 years of age (n = 11) who were not on medications completed 20-min exercise sessions at a moderate (50%VO2max) exercise intensity and a vigorous (75%VO2max) exercise intensity.

Purpose: One of the singularities of the eyes of snakes is the presence of the spectacle, a transparent and vascularized integument covering the cornea. The spectacle is completely renewed during ecdysis. Combined scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and conventional macrophotography were used to image this phenomenon.

The synthesis, computer modeling, and biological activity of an octawalled molecular umbrella short interfacing RNA (siRNA) conjugate is described. This molecular umbrella-siRNA conjugate exhibited mRNA knockdown activity in vitro in the absence of a transfection reagent. Evaluation of this molecular umbrella conjugate in vivo, using the rat eye via intravitreal injection, resulted in sequence specific mRNA knockdown in the retina with no obvious signs of toxicity, as judged by ophthalmic examination.

Nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPVs) can initiate devastating disease outbreaks in populations of defoliating Lepidoptera, a fact that has been exploited for the purposes of biological control of some pest insects. A key part of the horizontal transmission process of NPVs is the degradation of the larval integument by virus-coded proteins called chitinases, such as V-CHIA produced by the v-chiA genes. We used recombinant and naturally occurring strains of the Lymantria dispar NPV (LdMNPV) to test horizontal transmission in the field, release of virus from dead larvae under laboratory conditions, and cell lysis and virus release in cell culture.
