Article Synopsis
  • This study compared the surface markers of rabbit and human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), aiming to identify significant differences in their profiles.
  • Researchers found that while both cell types shared 16 markers, nine markers showed distinct differences, indicating that rabbit and human MSCs have notable variations in their characteristics.
  • Specifically, certain markers like CD73 and CD90 were found in human MSCs but not in rabbit MSCs, whereas desmin was present in rabbit MSCs but absent in human ones.

Emerging evidence suggests that the transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of alveolar epithelial cells (AEC) may contribute to airway remodeling in severe asthma and fibrotic lung diseases. Studies have shown that extracts from propolis protect chemical-induced cardiac and liver fibrosis in animals. This study assesses the inhibitory effect of propolis on TGF-β1-induced EMT in serum-deprived A549 cells (human AECs).
