The proliferation and migration of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) profoundly impact the pathogenesis of liver inflammation and fibrogenesis. As a perennial herb native to China, Bupleurum falcatum is administered for its anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and antihepatotoxic effects. Saikosaponin a (SSa) and Saikosaponin d (SSd) are the major active components of triterpene saponins in Bupleurum falcatum.

We studied the expression and distribution of the microtubule-severing enzyme spastin in 3 human glioblastoma cell lines (U87MG, U138MG, and T98G) and in clinical tissue samples representative of all grades of diffuse astrocytic gliomas (n = 45). In adult human brains, spastin was distributed predominantly in neuronsand neuropil puncta and, to a lesser extent, in glia. Compared with normal mature brain tissues, spastin expression and cellular distribution were increased in neoplastic glial phenotypes, especiallyin glioblastoma (p < 0.

The Slit glycoproteins and their Roundabout (Robo) receptors regulate migration and growth of many types of cells including human cancer cells. However, little is known about the expression and roles of Slit/Robo in human ovarian cancer. Herein, we examined the expression of Slit/Robo in human normal and malignant ovarian tissues and its potential participation in regulating migration and proliferation of human ovarian cancer cells using two ovarian cancer cell lines, OVCAR-3 and SKOV-3.

Smac/DIABLO is a recently identified protein released from mitochondria in response to apoptotic stimuli and promotes apoptosis by antagonizing inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs). In this study, we observed depressed Smac/DIABLO and increased XIAP expression in ovarian epithelial tissues ordered by normal, benign and malignant epithelia. In epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), the expression of Smac/DIABLO decreased with the malignancy.
