The choroid is the most vascularized structure in the human eye, associated with numerous retinal and choroidal diseases. However, the vessel distribution of choroidal sublayers has yet to be effectively explored due to the lack of suitable tools for visualization and analysis. In this paper, we present a novel choroidal angiography strategy to more effectively evaluate vessels within choroidal sublayers in the clinic.

Background: Given the critical importance of medication adherence in HIV/AIDS treatment, this study aims to compare medication adherence measured by self-report (SR) and indirect measurement among antiretroviral therapy (ART) patients, exploring the differences of adherence results measured by different tools.

Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify all relevant literature published up to November 22, 2023, without language restrictions, reporting adherence to ART measured by both SR and indirect measurement methods, while also analyzing individual and group adherence separately. Discrepancies between SR and indirect measurement results were assessed using the Mann-Whitney U test or Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with correlations evaluated using the Pearson correlation coefficient.

. The choroid is the most vascularized structure in the human eye, whose layer structure and vessel distribution are both critical for the physiology of the retina, and disease pathogenesis of the eye. Although some works have used graph-based methods or convolutional neural networks to separate the choroid layer from the outer-choroid structure, few works focused on further distinguishing the inner-choroid structure, such as the choroid vessel and choroid stroma.

Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) belongs to head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), with dismal prognosis. Here, this study aims to disclose the role of LINC-PINT in cancer development, which may contribute to improving the clinical outcomes of LSCC treatment. LINC-PINT expression in LSCC tissues and in TU-177 and Hep-2 cells was quantified, and subsequently, the association between LINC-PINT and LSCC malignancies was analyzed.

The study sought to assess the changes in physical activity (PA) and sedentary time among Chinese youths at different stages after the COVID-19 outbreak. It was based on a retrospective online survey conducted in May 2020. More than 10,000 youths voluntarily recalled their PA-related information at three stages: before COVID-19 (January), during lockdown (February), and after lockdown (May).

Smoking has a substantial impact on deaths from non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs). Quantitatively measuring the impact of tobacco control on population health is of great theoretical and practical importance, for governments to make health policy decisions. Focusing on premature deaths, we predicted the deaths by 2030 from major NCDs caused by smoking among people aged 30-69 years in Sichuan Province, Southwest China.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have undergone a comprehensive study for their involvements in tumor treatments. The purpose of our study was to explore the biological effects and regulatory mechanisms of lncRNA LINC01194 (LINC01194) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). The levels of LINC01194 in 105 LSCC patients were detected by RT-qPCR.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) can regulate the progression of various cancers, while their roles in oral cancer cells are not well known. Our present study found that the HDAC1 was over expressed in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells and tissues. Targeted inhibition of HDAC1 via its specific inhibitor PCI24781 or siRNA can inhibit the proliferation of OSCC cells and increase their sensitivity to the chemo-sensitivity such as doxorubicin treatment.

Background: Hypertension is highly prevalent and is the primary risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). While declining in some developed countries, it is increasing rapidly in some developing countries. Sichuan province is the largest and underdeveloped region in southwest China, with 486 thousand square kilometers, more than 80 million residents, unbalanced economic development, and high prevalence, low awareness, low treatment and low control rate of hypertension.

Background: Endoscopic ultrasonography guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is a well-established technique for diagnosing pancreatic malignancy. In general, tissue of pancreatic head and uncinate process lesions is obtained via a transduodenal approach. However, this tissue-acquisition modality is not applicable in cases of pyloric obstruction and duodenal bulb ulceration.

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are promising therapeutic molecules of cancer. Here we aim to study the therapeutic effect and mechanism of a lncRNA, HOXA11-AS, in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Methods: OSCC tissues and adjacent matched paraneoplastic normal tissues used in this study were collected from 42 OSCC patients.

Functional, noncoding RNA of about 200 nucleotides in length are known as long noncoding RNA (lncRNA). Advances in -omics have revolutionized the information with respect to the coding and noncoding regions of the genome. Several studies have illustrated the role of lncRNA in cell growth and cancer.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to have several functional roles in tumor biology, and they are deregulated in many types of cancer. The role of a novel lncRNA, NORAD, in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is still unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that NORAD expression was upregulated in PTC cell lines and samples.

Purpose: Acupuncture therapy is effective for relieving postoperative pain. Our previous study showed that electroacupuncture (EA) at Futu (LI18) and Hegu (LI4)-Neiguan (PC6) could alleviate incisional neck pain, which was related with its effect in upregulating γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) expression in cervical (C3-6) dorsal root ganglions (DRGs); but whether its receptor subsets GABAα2R and GABAR1 in C3-6 DRGs are involved in EA analgesia or not, it remains unknown.

Materials And Methods: Seventy-five male Sprague Dawley rats were randomized to normal control, model, LI18, LI4-PC6, and Zusanli (ST36)-Yanglingquan (GB34) groups.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the link between occupational stress and the risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) among a group of 366 PCOS patients and 325 control participants in China.
  • The first analysis revealed that occupational stress significantly contributes to the risk of developing PCOS, while subsequent models showed that insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was a strong mediator in this relationship.
  • Ultimately, the findings suggest that both direct and indirect effects of occupational stress on PCOS are evident, with insulin resistance playing a central role in this association.

AFAP1-AS1 is a long non-coding RNA that is associated with tumorigenesis and poor prognosis in a variety of cancers. We have been suggested that AFAP1-AS1 increases tumorigenesis in laryngeal carcinoma specifically by enhancing stemness and chemoresistance. We assessed AFAP1-AS1 expression in human laryngeal specimens, paired adjacent normal tissues and human HEp-2 cells.
