Health-Related Quality of Life Assessment in Prostate Cancer Patient Undergoing Androgen Deprivation Therapy: Real-World Experience in the READT Study.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in Asian men with all stages of prostate cancer.

Materials And Methods: READT (real-life evaluation of the effect of ADT in prostate cancer patients in Asia) was a multi-center, prospective observational study involving six sites across four Asian populations. We enrolled eligible prostate cancer patients, who opted for ADT alone or in combination without prior neoadjuvant or adjuvant ADT within 12 months.

Prostate Health Index Density Outperforms Prostate-specific Antigen Density in the Diagnosis of Clinically Significant Prostate Cancer in Equivocal Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Prostate: A Multicenter Evaluation.

Purpose: We compare Prostate Health Index, Prostate Health Index density, and PSA density in predicting clinically significant prostate cancer in MRI-guided prostate biopsy.

Materials And Methods: This is a multicenter evaluation of prospectively maintained prostate biopsy databases at 10 urology centers. Men with Prostate Health Index and MRI-guided targeted and systematic prostate biopsy performed and without prior prostate cancer diagnosis were included.

Surgical training for anatomical endoscopic enucleation of the prostate.

Anatomical endoscopic enucleation of the prostate has been proposed as a potentially superior benign prostatic hyperplasia surgery than conventional transurethral resection of prostate. However, the learning curve of the procedure is steep, hence limiting its generalisability worldwide. In order to overcome the learning curve, a proper surgical training is extremely important.

Urethroscrotal fistula complicating large spermatocele in a male ketamine abuser: A case report.

Ketamine related urinary tract complications were first reported in Hong Kong since 2007. The current case report describes a 37 years old male with long history of ketamine abuse, renal impairment, hypertension and HCV hepatitis, presented to us with insidious onset of painful scrotal swelling post bilateral nephrectomy, prostate and seminal vesicle preserving cystectomy. Radiological imaging and intraoperative finding revealed that it was a large spermatocele with urethroscrotal fistula, which was likely due to urethra stricture.

A newly developed porcine training model for transurethral piecemeal and en bloc resection of bladder tumour.

Purpose: The Asian Urological Surgery Training & Education Group (AUSTEG) has been established to provide training and education to young urologists in Asia. We developed and validated a porcine bladder training model for transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT).

Methods: Urology residents and specialists were invited to test the training model.

Special considerations in the urological management of the older spinal cord injury patient.

Purpose: This paper reports the key findings of Committee 8 of the Joint SIU-ICUD Consultation on Urologic Management of the Spinal Cord Injured Patient and address issues pertaining to the older person with a SCI and the time-related changes relevant to their urological, gastrointestinal and functional management.

Methods: A literature review using the Pubmed and Ovid search engines was performed examining pertinent literature regarding SCI in the older patient.

Results: There is a rising incidence of both traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) in older people and improvements in healthcare and nutrition mean patients with SCI are living longer.

Symptom prevalence, bother, and treatment satisfaction in men with lower urinary tract symptoms in Southeast Asia: a multinational, cross-sectional survey.

Purpose: The overall objective of the survey was to systematically examine patients' perspectives on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and their treatment in Southeast Asia.

Methods: A multinational cross-sectional survey involving adult men seeking consultation at urology outpatient clinics because of LUTS in Southeast Asia was conducted using convenience sampling. Self-reported prevalence, bother, treatment and treatment satisfaction of selected LUTS including urgency, nocturia, slow stream, and post-micturition dribble were evaluated.

Use of the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) in Chinese male patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Purpose: To test the psychometric properties of the International Prostate Symptom Score (Hong Kong Chinese version 2) (IPSS) in Chinese male patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) under secondary care.

Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was done by interviewing subjects at baseline, at 2 week after baseline for assessing test-retest reliability and at 26 week after baseline for assessing responsiveness. All subjects were interviewed to complete a structured questionnaire including IPSS, Short Form-12 Health Survey version 2 (SF-12v2) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS).

A 55-Year-Old Man with Right Testicular Pain: Too Old for Torsion?

Testicular torsion is predominantly a disease of adolescence, but age itself should not be an exclusion criterion for the diagnosis. A lack of suspicion for testicular torsion in older patients may result in a missed or delayed diagnosis which jeopardizes the chance of testicular salvage. In this article, we report a case of testicular torsion in a 55-year-old Chinese man.

Augmentation cystoplasty: Urodynamic and metabolic outcomes at 10-year follow-up.

Objective: To review the urodynamic outcomes, renal function and metabolic complications after augmentation cystoplasty with at least 10 years of follow-up.

Methods: Augmentation cystoplasty performed in two tertiary referral centers from 1995 to 2004 were reviewed. Ten years or more postoperative course was studied by review of the clinical notes, urodynamic reports and laboratory results.

Role of PSA density in diagnosis of prostate cancer in obese men.

Purpose: To compare the performance of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) density in the diagnosis of prostate cancer in obese and non-obese Chinese men.

Methods: The results of transrectal ultrasound-guided (TRUS) prostate biopsies of Chinese men with PSA <20 ng/mL were reviewed. Parameters including age, body mass index (BMI), TRUS prostate volume, and TRUS biopsy results were recorded.

Does selective dorsal rhizotomy improve bladder function in children with cerebral palsy?

Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) on urinary symptoms and bladder function in cerebral palsy children.

Methods: Selective dorsal rhizotomy was performed in 56 children with spastic cerebral palsy. Intraspinal nerve root divisions over the cauda equina from L1/2 to S1/2 levels were performed.

Clinical outcomes of augmentation cystoplasty in patients suffering from ketamine-related bladder contractures.

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of augmentation cystoplasty in patients with bladder contractures secondary to chronic ketamine abuse.

Method: Patients who had received augmentation cystoplasty to treat ketamine-related bladder contractures in two hospitals in our region were reviewed retrospectively. Their history of ketamine consumption, presenting symptoms, history of treatment, surgical information and post-operative conditions were retrieved from clinical records and then summarized.

Hepatic haematoma after shockwave lithotripsy for renal stones.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) is a non-invasive procedure for urolithiasis. Only a very small portion of patients suffer from post-SWL haematoma and most of them have perinephric haematoma formation. We present two patients who developed subcapsular hepatic haematomas after SWL, followed by a review of the literature on the condition.

The destruction of the lower urinary tract by ketamine abuse: a new syndrome?

Objective: To report the clinical spectrum seen in young abusers of street-ketamine (regular recreational abusers of street-ketamine, for its hallucinogenic effects) in Hong Kong, presenting with significant lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) but with no evidence of bacterial infection.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analysed the clinical presentations, pelvic pain and urgency/frequency scores, video-urodynamic studies, cystoscopy findings, histological features of bladder biopsies and radiological findings of 59 ketamine abusers who were referred to the urology units of Princess Margaret and Tuen Mun Hospital, Hong Kong, from March 2000 to December 2007.
